I just ordered a X-Bull 10,000lb with 85' of synthetic rope ($369 @ Amazon). I like that the motor connections are on the back of the motor, and the remote is wired or wireless on the same handheld. I guess time will tell.

We've owned x-bulls on the last 3 Jeeps. No failures. They are amazing for the price.

After standing at Harbor Freight two different times pondering the Badlands. I pulled the trigger on the Warn Evo 10, delivered today from JJs 4 wheel drive. Caught a store sale and the warn rebate. Price down in your range, also, surprise, warn evo has wireless and wired option now.

why warn? Because we abused these in the mud on atvs, with my son during his teenage years. Just clean the contacts, and keep using.

I have had 3 VR series Warns and even tho they are now made in China they have awesome customer service and you can get every single part replaced. Probably what I will be getting.

When installing the Badlands winch make sure you do both of the mods first. It may be the bumper I have (Rockhard 4x4) but there was no room for the cables that came straight out of the back. I cut a round hole in my grill. It worked but now I'm screwed if I need to remove the grill.

So I rerouted the thick cables from the rear to the side. That solved one problem. However now I still could not remove the grill. So onto mod number two.

I loosed the bumper bolts and slid the entire bumper and winch towards the front. I removed the grill. There are 6 tabs with clips at the bottom of the grill. I cut off the four center tabs and clips. Now the grill can be easily removed.

While you're at it add the outer thicker tie in plate. Thicker steel and one more bolt into the frame.

10k should be enough. I have a superwinch on mine. Wired and wireless remotes, synthetic line came with it.
10k is good. I have a smittybilt, and even tho that brand gets a bad rap, it has been reliable for me. I got it almost 50% off, so it was a no brainer at the time. If I were in the market for a winch right now, I'd do Badlands all day.
Badlands is 12000 , thats what i have been thinking 12K might be an overkill..
All the ppl that say 10K is good don't do many recoveries. I average 6 per month. 10K and 12K have the same motor, 12K has lower gears. Probably half the recoveries I do are on steep hills where the recovered rig gains traction, jumps forward, then bounces back. That puts a huge load on the winch drive train. I always use my offset winch ring because it's impossible to fall off - and old fashioned snatch ring is guaranteed to fall off in that situation. Using a snatch ring 1. makes it trivial to get a fee anchor and 2. half's the load on the winch. Many of the recoveries I do require a two jeeps anchor.

I have a 12K SW on my TJR, JLR. I have a ZEON 12-S PLATINUM WINCH on my stretched LJR on 43's. I think the SW is a great winch. A few folks in my group have had good luck with the badlands.

I spent a great deal of time on my winch wiring thinking I did it perfect, only to discover during my front bumper harbor freight light install this week that some of my winch wires were rubbing the soft cable spool on the backside.

If your winch is inside of your bumper, crawl under and peak at yours with a flashlight when finished to make sure you don’t have wiring rubbing against the backside of the spool.

I could only imagine the mess of needing this and suddenly winch quits and look down all of my wiring is wrapped around the spool.

I also learned that I cannot remove my grill now. My warn winch wiring is preventing removal. I wonder if the harbor fright winch with the wire reroute out the side mod, if a person can remove the grill. Something to factor into purchase decision.
