Why so many doors

What was the driving factor in getting the 4 door?

Everyone has different taste. The kids are gone, the dogs crowd themselves into the front passenger seat so I didn't get a four door, but I see 10X as many four doors and I'm just curious
I currently drive a JK 2 door. It was my weekend vehicle until I sold my Sierra last May. It’s been my daily driver since. I have two small children in car seats and while I have been making it work it is less than ideal and basically impossible if I need to have the kids AND cargo. I’ve always been a 2 door fan as I find them more fun to drive and easier to maneuver. However, I just placed an order for a 22 and went 4 door for the added space. Kids….

Can't tell you..shhh
I like the look of the 4-door. I also bought my Jeep to take on trips because my wife's car was getting to small in the back for my son. The Jeep has more room and also more storage room and gets better gas mileage than my Tundra.

By the way Kenny, love the EA-6B Prowler in your avatar.

I've always had 4-door vehicles (car, truck, now Jeep) because I *despise* when I have friends who have 2-doors and they're always jacking around trying to get in and out of the back seat, accessing it, etc.

A 4-door is just so much more convenient.

Three-sport weekends far off the beaten path: whitewater kayaks and gear, climbing gear, ropes, harnesses, mountainbikes and mtb gear, and of course the camping gear. Seemed like it would be a tough fit in a 2-door. Cargo space in the 4-door is awesome.
As for the wheelbase for wheeling... the better breakover angle with the 2-door would be nice, but it's still a strong breakover angle with the 4-door. And I can imagine scenarios where a longer wheelbase could help while wheeling, though it's speculating on things I haven't experienced: a nasty mudhole the length of your 2-door, where a longer wheelbase might allow 2 wheels to be on more solid footing while 2 are stuck in the mud, or sand... or a rock situation where maybe longer "reach" could help... like, if I could get my driver-front tire on THAT rock BEFORE my rears come off THIS rock... I dunno. A Rubicon is going to do great offroad whether it has 2 doors or 4.
But, it's about the cargo space for sure.

“I like the looks of a 4 door more than a 2 door”.
Now that’s funny!

I wanted my old 4dr xj country with some fun modifications, but that car is long gone, they don't really make a direct descendant of it, and maybe at some point in the future I can get something from Davis or similar, but not at the moment.

Having rear doors and an actual rear cargo area are just far more utilitarian and convenient for daily life and the sorts of things I typically carry or pack.

i'd take a 2dr tj or lj though (guess i don't really have to specify 2dr there...)

I didn't read all 6 pages, but your poll doesn't list the one true reason to buy a 4-door JLU.

BECAUSE THEY DON'T OFFER THE 392 IN A 2-DOOR.

Or the diesel, or the hybrid for those so inclined when available. You get Nothing over base drivetrain options, … Good Day Sir !

I don't like the way it looks in the current model and test driving a friends two door it was much more of a bouncy ride than I would like.
Besides I already have a small two seater so for space and family concerns alone it was a easy choice.

Maybe but that would require a special 2 door hardtop and soft top too, since the current tops with the current doors. That or they'd have to extend the wheelbase to accommodate the extended front door. Either way that's a lot more R&D, tooling and materials to make getting in the back seat easier. They probably figure if that's an issue you'd just get a 4 door.
Way too expensive to make the front doors longer for the 2 door.

door and top.webp
And spending money on these custom doors would take from their R&D budget for creating a plethora of different fender flares.

Not able to add multiple choices so here you go.

I needed even more room, so I bought a lil pull-behind.

I kept 1 seat for my daughter. Deleted the other. THIS IS NOT fully loaded. Before the trailer purchase, I was packed to the ceiling.

And frankly, my wife always loved the look of the XJ's. This was as close as I could get for her to looking like a Cherokee.
