Anyone use Trails Off Road and/or On X Trails apps? Both are fee based. Which do you like best and why?

I prefer Trails Off Road for their trail guides. onX has more trails, but TOR's write ups are much more detailed. You can also upload their maps directly to Gaia GPS.

Also, TOR's user reviews help keep the guides up to date on changing trail conditions/ratings.

Here's a great video from TrailRecon detailing his overlanding set up (he uses both btw)

Gaia GPS. I use lots of other resources but for trail navigation Gaia has been great.

I've been using both. Trails off-road comes built into the Jeep adventure guides and seems to have the more "sanctioned" trails listed. Whereas I've noticed alot of backwoods/old highways type trails on OnXoffroad. I like them both.

I just watch way too many YouTube videos and try to memorize the trails. It works about 39.3% of the time ?

I subscribe to TrailsOffroad and Gaia. The guys at TO are personable, I wheeled with a couple of them that map for WA state. Users can add content.

TO works great as an overlay in Gaia. Gaia presents a learning curve but once you get into it, there is so many maps and info it is addicting.

I use trails off road.
But I also use, https://caltopo.com/
And
Alpine quest GPS explorer

Caltopo has some really good base maps and sharing options. Live view of the location of multiple other people when recording the route of each person.

Alpine quest is a very good GPS. You can download a track from Trails off road into Alpine and it adds all kinds of cool options. Like you can set it to sound an alarm if you go more then a set distance off the track you are following.

Trails offroad is great if you are out west, further east you live the less useful it becomes.

As for Gaia and OnX, Gaia is like Android and OnX is like iOS. If you are looking to put in the work to customize and build your own routes Gaia is a wonderful product, if you just want to hop in find some local trails and go OnX is the best bet.

https://gravelmap.com/ is an awesome resource Ive found for finding trails as well, the site is HELLA slow for some reason but can find some fun roads with it.

I also noticed that, where Trails Offroad and OnXoffroad don't seem to have the same trails. For example the SCAR (South Carolina Adventure Route) doesn't show on Trails Offroad but it is on OnXoffroad and is a pretty cool trail from the parts I drove at least. I'm going to be looking for other trails in my neck of the woods.

Aren't those rated 2/10? That could explain why they're not in TOR. It's common to see Civics and minivans on the 2s near us.

It says 3 out of 10 optional 5 on Onx.

My bad. The sections I looked at were all 2/10. I'm not sure, however, that I've seen a 3/10 in TOR.

Definitely stick with OnX for sections of the country that don't have many trails. That's where TOR's significantly higher standards hinder its usefulness.

For now I'm rocking both just looking everywhere for places. I'm hoping to find a few near me within reasonable driving distance. The closest one on TOR is 45 miles away. But I'm told from a friend that requires a day pass and isn't open til the spring.
