As soon as it starts to spider out, that's when I replace mine. I don't like driving with cracked windshields.

Pro tip on extending the life of your side glass....roll it down before firing. Really saves on repair costs.

I Rain-X repaired the original glass 7 times before I took a rock that spit out glass inside the cab. That first windshield lasted 150K miles. The repair can make 90+% of the distraction go away, and takes minutes to do.

My '21 had a long crack on the passenger side that wasn't an issue for me. But the wife objected after a 250 mile road trip as the sunlight reflecting/refracting along the crack bothered her a lot. Yours is a lot worse than mine was, but a call to Safelite got me a new windshield installed quickly and w/o a hassle.

When it is bugging you or your better half. Or if law dictates. I make sure my policy is favorable to glass replacement. $100 deductible.

For me (in Austin, Texas) I'm waiting to get around to it - I hit a rock and the crack is right down the middle, vertically, between the driver/passenger sides. As for getting pulled over, Austin PD has not worked traffic in a few years - I haven’t seen APD write a speeding ticket since before Covid. Red light intersections are extremely dangerous here.

Someone should make a screen insert to replace the glass windshield in Wranglers.🧐
Do cars need glass to be legal?

I can't find anything that says that glass is required in Colorado, but they say that if glass is required then the driver's view has to be unobstructed. If I'm reading it right, of course.

No vehicle shall be operated upon any highway unless the driver's vision through any required glass equipment is normal and unobstructed.

Those prices sound high. An good quality aftermarket (with no sensors, etc.,) is $250.00 up here in Gillette, WY. That's installed at their shop, not on location.

I have $50 deductible windshield coverage on my insurance policy so I always replace the glass as soon as the crack reaches Safelite's threshold for replacement instead of repair (6 inches).

My Jeep is only 16 months old and already on its 3rd or 4th glass by now.

There's a shop here that reportedly offers a $250/$300 replacement, but that's before tax and I couldn't reach them 🤷‍♂️

Been driving my 21 for 3 years with cracked windshield. It's never been on driver side so I didn't really care but after driving across the country to Moab and back I am doing my jeep bunny a solid and replacing it. Safe Lite is coming Friday to swap it with new blades for $459 after tax. Then I'm going home with fingers crossed not to get hit so the jeep bunny and I can get the Exoshield installed.

I have Progressive with a $500 deductible so it doesn't cover the swap. Inquiring about the glass being covered for zero deductible adds another $220 per 6 months. My agent then told me that claiming a windshield replace will count as a claim and would likely cause my rates to move. So we are paying out of pocket.

Here it's all about whether it obstructs the driver's view. That said, I'd replace that glass even though it seems to have done a nice job of avoiding your line of sight.

I received similar numbers from my insurance; the premium increase for the coverage plus the rate increase due to any claim just doesn't make it worthwhile.

Replace ASAP!! Don't be that "Ghetto" guy who just rides around looking, well . . . Ghetto. Here in NC we have inspections every year and you won't get through that with a cracked windshield.

Something breaks, fix it.

Really depends on you and the laws where you live. I'm currently rolling with around 15 chips, and 3 cracks. Going to finally get it replaced this month. Received two new chips in the past week. Out here in AZ it's insane how many rocks come from nowhere. You sneeze and you get a chip, and then within 5 minutes it'll spider. I'm currently on windshield #7 I believe. Every time I've put in a new windshield within 2 weeks I've gotten a chip. Putting in a new one and adding some exoshield to it this time around.
