  1. Dash control panel fails to turn on after cold start

2001 2.0 E-Torque Rubicon/recon JL. 47K trouble free miles, lots of off-road. Lately on cold start the dash panel located directly below the UConnect screen (that has the audio volume, fan speed, A/C button and various other controls) is dead when I start the jeep cold. So far it comes on after...
  2. Aux Switches Unavailable - Battery Charging

I had the same thing on the 2.0 w/e-torque. Your main 12v battery is on its last legs.
  3. 2.0 sounds rough…

Sorry, I didn't notice in your profile that you're posting about a 4XE. I have no experience with that.
  4. 2.0 sounds rough…

My 2.0 turbo w/etorque sounds rough and "clattery" when it's cold. I've even been asked if it's a diesel. But after a few minutes it settles to a nice low idle and runs very quiet and smooth (44k miles). It's hard to tell from phone audio, but that does not sound like mine at all. Is that in...
  5. Appropriate Use of Lockers

I'd advise against using front lockers when going downhill on hard to control terrain like sand or loose gravel. Your front end can tend to skid or plow when you want to steer.
  6. Fender liners. Yes? No?

Exactly how I feel, but out here in hot deserts I've had people tell me to leave them open for cooling.
  7. Fender liners. Yes? No?

We all see jeeps on the trail with modified fender flares. Some folks have liners behind, others leave the entire affair open. What say you? I'm thinking of going with this setup: American Adventure Lab
  8. 4 position transfer case/8 speed auto. Shifting questions...

Thanks. I've only posted here a few times, but when I have I've always gotten informed answers from experienced jeepers. 👍
  9. 4 position transfer case/8 speed auto. Shifting questions...

Thanks. I presume this shift is made in neutral, unlike 2H to 4H and back (which is smooth while rolling along in drive, foot off the gas-per manual). 4L to 4H by your method works, is some clashing of the gears okay?
  10. 4 position transfer case/8 speed auto. Shifting questions...

I've got experience 4WD but this is my first jeep. Rubicon/recon JL. 8 speed auto. 4 position transfer case. Shifting the transfer case between 4H and 4L and back is good. Shifting 4H to neutral, and down into 4L is good. I run into some weirdness shifting from 4L back to neutral, and when I...
  11. Engine Knocking in 2.0 Turbo?

2.0 turbo with 10:1 compression forced up to 270 HP = Premium gas.
  12. Terrible 2.0 gas mileage?

That's good. What are your tires?
  13. Terrible 2.0 gas mileage?

Why are you idling at lights? I'm born and raised New Yorker. That place was a nightmare in a car. It must be lighter now with everyone scared off the streets, empty office buildings and all? OT but I'm curious. How is it there these daze? No vehicle I drove there in that stop and go ever got...
  14. Terrible 2.0 gas mileage?

2020 Rubi 2.0 turbo. 17" AT's. About 14 around town on CA 91 octane gas. 21 highway 60/65 mph. What blew me away was my mileage on my first 4wd trip. Some Cali drivers may know the one. Ballarat to Death Valley: Goler Cyn, Mengel pass. Got 18 mpg, lots of 4L. Outstanding in my book. Happy camper...
  15. Important for those that have a brand new Jeep - check your fuses!

Yeah, I found the same thing on my new 2020 Rubicon/Recon, about 6 loose fuses and 2 loose relays. I think the one's that won't seat at all are spares. The list of uses in the manual includes a number of spares.
  16. Issue: 2020 8 Speed . RPM increase suddenly on down hills

Hill descent control only operates in 4L (At least on my 2020 Rubicon). edit. Mine (8 speed auto) downshifts on hills all the time. The gear ratios are close enough together that if you're in drive the gear change can be hard to notice. And the dash display won't tell you. If yours is an auto...
  17. 2022 Color Wish List

Probably expensive, but a pro looking camo, as opposed to DYI would appeal to me.
  18. Whining/Howling sound that cycles up with acceleration and down w/ deceleration. 2.0 Issue?

Would you describe it as a loud whining sound, tied directly to rpm's, not a fan sound? My 2020 recon (2k miles) is doing this. It also seems sluggish. I went to the dealer (with an appointment having already described the issue) having arranged for a tech to take a ride with the windows open...
  19. New Rubicon. Bizarre safety feature.

Thanks everyone. I'll see if disconnecting the wiring works, and do that if I have the situation I described. It pretty much has to work. Don't know why I didn't think of it. Cheers, happy jeeping. Edit. Damn, seatbelt does the trick. I as just driving around on my land here without it on. 🙄
  20. New Rubicon. Bizarre safety feature.

I just bought a 2020 Rubicon/Recon. I've taken it on a couple backroad/off-road trips. For an off the shelf rig it does well. For CA people, up and over Mengel pass was cake. But check this out. I just found out that if a door is ajar or open, the transmission won't engage. The light down at...
