I change the engine (3.6V) oil myself for the first time today at 39K miles. Used up my Jeep Wave oil changes. Also changed the front diff, rear diff, transfer case fluids. Are there any other items should be aware of when it comes to routine maintenance? For example, are there any fluid I should check and top off, i.e engine coolant, power steering? Thanks!

Being my Jeep was a used 2020, when I was looking it over I saw that it had had an oil change roughly 6 months before I got it. With only 4300 miles showing when I bought the Jeep, I was still concerned and wanted to get on my own schedule. When I finally got home, the vehicle had 5500 miles on it. Pennzoil 0W20, a Mopar filter, Cabin Air filter and a check of the Engine filter were all done at that time.
I am old school but have been using synthetics since 1975 when I started buying Mobil-1 oil even though I was running a Texaco Service Station. I used to do changes every 3000, but will probably go with 6000 mile changes unless I notice the oil getting dark sooner than I think it should.

Was reading this thread and called the local Jeep dealer to schedule my first oil change as I have about 1,200 miles now. The Service Advisor told me every new car is run for X hours and has had an oil change before leaving the factory so there's no need to do an early oil change. He even said high performance engines have electronic restrictions so people can't work the engine too soon during the break in period. Make sense but can anyone else confirm this?

No. But that is some pretty good science fiction.

I have 1800 miles on my new Rubicon JLR which an oil change appointment for this Friday... I have seen some Jeepers get an oil change like me as old school at 2k or 3k miles and the dealer said 7k...

So tell me what you did....

Miles?
Type of oil/filters?
Did you do the dealer freebee?
Why or Remarks?

If the forum owner (Bill?) could you make this a vote with comments. I see some folks talking about this and with more and more JL owners are getting to this point will need to know.
I was planning on changing it at the reccomended 7K, unfortunatley it was totaled with 6K on the odo. I'll have to check back when the new Rubi lands and come up with a new plan.

I changed the oil in my wife's car, 3.6 pentastar with 50K plus miles. She'd "forgotten" to remind me, (still my problem) it was at 10K plus and it was suprisingly clean.

Pentastars are easy on oil, partly because they are not direct injected. I doubt the 10k run hurt anything. I run Mobil 1 EP 0w20, especially in my wife's Jeep, because she will forget to tell me, as well. This engine is a cake walk for that oil.

So THAT is why I couldn't get my new Jeep (370 miles on it so far) up to 100 on the highway last week!

Just got my third oil change free from my dealer at 11,100, after doing the first two myself. It was time for a tire rotation, so I figured why not get the free oil change while it's there. ?‍♂

First change at 1400 when we had a break in the weather and the garage floor dried out (I'm in Michigan) Pennzoil full synthetic 0W-20 and Mopar filter for the V6. It was noticable how much smoother it ran with the fresh oil! Not that what came out was that bad. Don't skimp use full synthetic. I plan on the second at 5k the 3rd at 10k and the every 10k after that. Jeep Wave, Tom (Aerospace Engineer/FAA Certified Repairman)
Terrible waste in my opinion. Follow the manufacturer’s recommendations and look at your oil life gauge in your cluster. It will tell you when an oil change is required. This is synthetic oil and intervals to 10,000 to 15,000 are safe but your Jeep should advise you based on duty cycles, heat and other logic that 7-9,000 miles it wants its engine oil changed. That is a very conservative interval for a good synthetic oil.

Even after an engine has been broken in and the oil has been changed by the factory, one extra oil change after the first gas tank fill up is a good and valid measure. Engine builders like me know why. For those who don't it's because you are taking a look for oil contamination (metal or coolant) and the oil filter for metal fragments.

It has nothing to do with the oil being depleted or help reduce engine wear. Although I can't argue that an early oil change absolutely doesn't help in that way.

Your Willys is restricted to 97 MPH anyway.
