Has anyone mentioned winch maintenance? Not to discredit premium brands but I have seen those fail due to poor maintenance.

Make sure to spool and unspool the line every so often. Check the electrical connections for any corrosion. Cycle it before a wheeling trip. Cover it when its not in use. Basic stuff.

You get what you pay for, but sometimes depends on what you need, good enough is good enough.

My Shittybult X2O has been great for 7 years.
Good to know, thank you. 👍

I was researching that yesterday. I couldn't find one. 🫤
100% American made winch on a 100% American made Jeep ? You uhh, might have to go slightly used. But, no wiring hassle, no wired or remote controller needed, battery charge not an issue, … Got It !

What the heck am I supposed to do with that thing. You don't expect me to manually crank/winch my jeep out at my age do ya? I've got bad knees, a bad back, a bad eye, arthritis. There are a few modern technology things I appreciate, power steering and an electric winch are two of them. 😄

Manually Crank ? Noooo, my uncle would hook and engage the winch, then sit in the seat and control it with the lever, like my Warn OD shifter, and the throttle if more power was needed. …

you ain’t as old as you claim … Sonny.

if you needed to routinely winch over sharp rocks, you might be.

it might not be what everyone is trying to do, but we have different tools for different applications.

syn is lighter and SIGNIFICANTLY less dangerous.

snap one of each and youll know why wire is obsolete nowadays. terrifying shit. not sure why anyone whould go with wire other than not having broken wire before

i always though a cover sounded like a great idea,.. but i never have, personally. in my current setup, i can't get one to fit.

thankfully, i don't have to deal with road salt/chems.
but more significantly, the way mine is configured it worked out to where there's almost nothing exposed to UV.

Do you guys keep a winch cover on whenever you're not using it? That's one thing I do, just to keep road salt and UV rays from damaging the synthetic line and winch hardware.

There are many good winches. The only slightly annoying thing is the myth that Warn somehow is the only reliable choice and everything else is junk.
I agree, but the market has changed a lot since the tariff war and rampant inflation. Places starting to charge more just because they can, even though the product may have been affected maybe 2-5% retail price by tariffs (remember that tariffs are on the actual in-port cost, not any overhead or marketing or packaging or anything).

Superwinch was great before Westin bought them. I've TIG welded ears on a couple newer Superwinches.

I'm not sure what has happened to Ramsey. I know they still sell big stuff but it seems like they abandoned the consumer market.

I run the Badland APEX 12k with no issues, there's a $100 off coupon until Feb. 1st, the price is hard to beat.

Dang it, just the other day I dropped over $650 on a Borla cat back exhaust system. Their prices went up since December when it was $590 but I went with some expensive heavy duty rock sliders over exhaust at that time. I guess they must import 100% of the aluminum they use and are now subject to a tariff. Made in the USA doesn't mean the materials are from here. On something like an exhaust, I find that surprising.

There was a day after Christmas a few weeks ago when HB was selling this winch for $279. Yes, the APEX version in this coupon, WITH synthetic rope and wireless remote. I was made aware of that by a post on the Gladiator forum. I rushed to my local HB and bought one that afternoon.

I had just gotten 50% off a winch bumper a few weeks prior to that on Black Friday. So now I've got $550 TOTAL invested in my new steel bumper and winch. I love catching deals!

Just purchased a HF Badlands 12k synthetic rope. Haven’t gotten it installed yet. Gotta buy a winch plate first. Going with Metalcloak. All the YouTube stars that I follow use them so why not get it. And it was only $400.
Good luck, I was considering those but my buddy in Idaho has killed three in less than a year.
