I'm often occupied, by many things, often at the same time
If the 9,000 lbs Super Duty isn't going to require 9000 lbs. of force applied to move unless it's REALLY stuck, then why get the biggest winch you can afford and will physically fit? Are you/we buying for a circumstance that isn't going to happen, and are there better ways to mitigate that risk (like learning good winching techniques)?

Back when people considered winches big money, 5000 was sufficient.

I use an 8k, never needed more.
+1
8k has always been plenty for me too (TJ). But when setting up a new JLR, I couldn't use my preferred 8k winch, and the 10s didn't seem different in size from the 8k versions, so why not have the extra capacity if it fits and works.

Personally I'm running an ancient Warn HSI 9500 on my JLR, an 8,000 lb Warn M8274 on my big dog CJ-7 and a Warn M6000 on my Samurai (which has pulled a diesel K5 Blazer out of the mud).
What do you notice about line speed difference between your 8274 and your 9500?
My TJ has 8k 8274, which is known for good line speed, and I'm going to a Warn 10s so curious how slow the line will be compared to 8274.

I guess I don't know. Does it matter where the motor/winch is located, or will the lighter vehicle always be pulled to the heavier vehicle (conditions being equal)? Is the fixed object (heavier vehicle) really pulling the lighter vehicle (Jeep with winch)?
The hope is that the vehicle in neutral (or driving) will be pulled toward the vehicle with brakes on.

Just pushed the buy button for a Zeon 8s. It will arrive a month before my JLR I'm guessing. Just making the wait more agonizing. :)

No surprises. The 8274 is scary fast when spooling the line back in. The HS9500i is a bit faster under load. I enjoy using both winches. Assuming you mean the Zeon 10s Platinum (and not the EVO junk) you'll be happy.
