I had the recall done yesterday and I notice zero difference in the steering. I never had death wobble, but I do have wandering, a gigantic dead spot, excess shaking and a hard pull to the left or right depending on the side of the crown of the road I'm on. The interesting thing in my case is that I began noticing the conditions after 6000 miles. It drove beautifully prior to that. I've brought it to the dealership 3 times and they claim they can't create the conditions that I notice. I brought it to my mechanic that I've been going to for a decade, and after going for a test drive he put it up on the lift and found that the drag link end on the pitman arm is loose. Took him about 2 minutes to determine it. I brought it to the dealership yesterday for the V41 and told them my mechanic said the drag link is loose. They call me to come pick it up and said everything was tight. I drive it home and it is no different. IT'S UTTER CRAP!

I feel the steering is a lot tighter now. Before there was some floating when you moved the steering wheel. Not sure on the wobble. Havent driven too much.

I had the V41 done and no change at all, but I didnā€™t expect it to help the looseness. The steering didnā€™t feel any tighter. My husband drove it and also couldnā€™t notice any improvement.

Bronson, not sure if this will help you or not... for my steering on my 19jl I had same issues. I put aftermarket steering stabilizer and front track bar and didnā€™t notice any difference. For grins , I brought to my dealer. He flashed the pcm and display and now my Jl rubicon steering is tight and straight. Go figure, but it fixed my steering. If you want specifics, Iā€™ll look up my paperwork and tell you.

So Iā€™m over a week to 2 weeks in.

My take:

It IS improved overall however there is still a dead spot in my steering wheel which still requires a bit of correction while driving. They didnā€™t even adjust the drag link so my steering wheel is off. I even told the SM that after they preform the replacement that the drag link would likely need to be adjusted which they didnā€™t even check clearly because it is was off from center.

Summary:

Close but no cigar.

No difference noted. Plus I'm driving a loaner now that has zero steering issues....so I can truly appreciate how bad my steering is.

If a PCM reflagged helped, Iā€™d like to know exactly what to ask the service tech for. My advisor has been helpful so far and hope he would accommodate this request. Iā€™m calling tomorrow morning for another appointment.

Thanks.

18 JLU Sport S. Had the new steering damper installed. I didn't notice any difference. Then again, I never had a problem with mine. A little wandering with OEM tires, but when I swapped to Rubicon 33s, it handled much better. The fatter tire footprint made a lot of difference. Stable, without any wandering. We'll see how much the new damper does over time.

Why didn't you or your mechanic just tighten it?

I went with an aftermarket stabilizer at 200 miles when i lifted it.

Just need to see if they will refund me for the stabilizer
