Upgraded Shocks Enough?

I don’t want to sound like a jerk but a bumpy ride is part of what you are signing up for when you buy a Jeep. Once you start to lift and modify it, it only gets bumpier. Learn to love it “Its a Jeep thing” as they say.

Stock I found the ride more than acceptable and fun. Even currently I don’t mind it but my wife hates it now. And I can see why.

I was going to make a post, but since it is very relevant to this one, I will just add it here.
I purchased a JL 2-ddor Sport used. It has a 3.5" Rubicon Express budget lift with their basic shocks. It also has Fuel 20x9 wheels with 35" E rated tires. It rides like complete crap. I am seriously thinking of just going with Rubi takeoff suspension and wheels/tires.
A previous poster says the ride is shock related more so than springs. So, another thought is to go with Accutune Fox 2.0 Shocks with the Adventure tune. I also know the e-rated tires are a big issue (currently run them at 35 psi), so will need to get some 17" rims to get to a C2 rated tire.
Any thoughts are much appreciated.

The Rubi take-off suspension should work well. You may need an adjustable bumptop kit to continue running the 35" tire size, or you can go full take-off and maybe drop to the "33's" from the Rubi as well. If you have aftermarket hi-clearance fenders, you should be good with 35's though.

The Ranchos offer a good ride for the price but are incredibly short travel. They limit suspension travel far too much for my liking. Personally I'd spend the extra $150 on fox 2.0's. Morris4x4center.com had the best prices when we bought ours last year.

Have put 700 miles on my new JL with the Zone 3” suspension lift. Fully aware I went cheap as a newb but am hoping upgrading the shocks will smooth out the ride as it is too bumpy. Only 1150 miles total on the Jeep. 35” k02s running at 32 psi. Are the coils also part of the problem? Should I swap out the entire kit or will some Fox shocks be enough? Total pavement Princess for now. Would love to off-road but I’ve got to drive 3 hours to find any trails. Zero issues with vibrations or wobble at any speed but jarring on these bad Houston roads. I’m open to any suggestions. TIA

That kit doesn't appear to have shock extensions... If you're still using the stock sport shocks you will have very little droop, possibly topping out the shocks at ride height. Different shocks are absolutely needed.

That kit doesn't appear to have shock extensions... If you're still using the stock sport shocks you will have very little droop, possibly topping out the shocks at ride height. Different shocks are absolutely needed.

Those kind of budget shocks are typically harshly valved, IMO. Been a thing for decades with Wranglers. My personal opinion is that it'll be the best bang for your buck to get a good quality shock that is valved properly for a 2 door. Budget shocks typically run very "taut" with overly strong nitrogen pressurization and/or odd valving. Coils springs are bouncy by nature and your ride wouldn't be harsh if they were the issue, it would be bouncy and floppy and all over the place.

thanks! yes, I noticed the Adventure series on the Zone website. Am assuming they aren't aluminum bodied? Now to decide if they would be good enough or if I should spend more for the Performance or something different...

I think this is the info I really needed as well. I am thinking of just opening up the wallet for some Accutune 2.0 Performance with the Adventure tune, and keeping my 3.5" Rubicon Express springs.

Fox and Falcon are probably the ones that I'd recommend. If I were looking at the budget friendly end of the spectrum, the 2.0 Fox without reservoir and the SP2 2.1 from Falcon, I'd say the falcon will probably give you the better ride - it's tuned specific for a 2 door - but the Fox look to be a bit cheaper MSRP and will probably still give you a better ride than your current shocks. I've run the remote reservoir version of the Fox before, untuned, on my JK and liked them. I've never run the Falcon before, but have heard good things.
