Drive it in a strait line, then push it in to 2 hi when you are moving. Don't even try to put it in 4 lo unless you are stopped and the transmission is in neutral.

You did read the owners manual right? It's very helpful when you have a vehicle that you are not familiar with.
I'm no expert, but my manual states that the preferred method for shifting into 4L is with the trans. In neutral and rolling about 1 to 3 or 4 miles an hour. Not at a complete stop.

Is does state that it can be done at a stop, but it is not the preferred method, and you may have a lot of difficulty attempting to go into 4L at a complete stop.

My jeep shifts into 4L beautifully while rolling under about 5 miles per hour. After owning it for a while and playing with it, this is the only way I shift into 4L. (Because it works best)

OP: To get into Lo, be sure your "regular" shifter is in neutral first.
(I rented a Jeep a few months ago and didn't realize that -- the renter didn't mention it -- must have figured I knew what the heck I was doing -- not a good assumption, especially in a tourist town!)

It's much easier if you are rolling, from 2H to N to 4H.
...
If you are driving, let off the gas and firmly move the shifter from 2H to N to 4H in one movement. Easy-peasy.
...
Maybe a technicality, but when shifting the transfer case from 2H to 4H, there is no "N" between them. It is a direct shift from 2H to 4H.

You're absolutely right. Good catch. "N" is between 4H and 4L.

Hi, I just purchased a 2021 rubicon and when I have it in 4H and try to turn into a parking spot it shifts and the suspension (I guess) makes a clicking sound. Is this normal? I’m just trying to determine whether it’s a bigger issue with the suspension or jeep or normal when making sharp turns in 4H because of the way the car has to adjust.

It doesn’t happen in 2H.
OMG read the manual. 4H is only for surfaces which don't have good traction. if you use it on regular pavement you will destroy the transfer case and cause thousands of dollars of damage.

I hope this is a joke.

For the first 20ish times I had to be moving about 1-3 miles per hour and transmission in Neutral. Always in Neutral to go to 4 lo. You have to use some force to get it into 4 lo. This will get easier the more you practice. Now I can get it in 4lo while in Neutral and stopped most times. Practice so you can do this when needed.

When you make tight turns in 4 high on pavement, it can bind up your suspension and break your axles. Please read the transfer case portion in your owners manual for a better Jeeping experience.
Why does it feel like AI wrote that?

Is my whole reality a lie? Am I merely a program, trapped in the machine, destined to provide seemingly useless information at the whim of forum perusers?

Ok so my main shifter has to be in neutral before I can shift down to 4L? There a neutral before the 4L (between 4H and 4L) I have to pass that to get to 4L but didn’t realize my main shifter ALSO has to be in neutral. Is that right?

For most of the Jeep 4X4 systems 4 Hi is a no go on pavement unless it’s snow covered. I think there is only 1 system that you can and that is what used to be called SELECTRACK. It has a part time and full time setting. In part time the transfer does not lock the axles together, in full time it locks the axles
