I just started to notice that my steering is looser when turning left than when turning right and it has really started to bother me. When turning right from center, I have felt that there is really no play in the steering and feels like it should. When turning left from center, it seems as if I have to turn the steering wheel about an inch and a half before the Jeep will actually move in the direction. My jeep is a 2021 Willy’s sport 2 door, completely stock. I have already scheduled the jeep to go back to the dealer to check but they are about 2 weeks out on service, so looking to see if there is anything I should check beforehand. Has anybody experienced this before? Most of the loose steering complaints that I have seen accounted for steering in both directions rather than just to one side. Thanks for the input!

You might have loose steering components on one side vs the other. You could check with a torque wrench. All of the steering components on my JL day 1 from the factory were far from torque spec, causing sloppy steering. Ball joint nuts were finger tight.

Just left, not right? If the steering wheel is centered but you feel you can rotate left with less effort than right, disconnect your steering stabilizer and see if the feel (regardless of good or bad) is now the same.

If it now feels the same, your stabilizer is junk, replace the critter.

If going to the left is still easier than the right, put the front on jack-stands and steer again.

Still easy to the left, hard to the right: Sounds like linkage bind. Disconnect one end of the tie rod and see if you can isolate to one wheel, joint, caliper, etc.

If everything feels the same, check the differential for metal. With the tires in the air, that eliminates rolling resistance so it seems like a hung locker or LSD. You can drop a tie rod end and see if that narrows your search.

Good luck, keep in touch!

Then don't steer left, Duh!

This reminds me what a Dodge dealer said to me when I stated that my Dodge Dakota vibrated at speeds above 65 mph. In my state the speed limit was 55 and they told me to keep my speed under 65. No kidding.

Two months later it started vibrating at speeds of about 45 mph and they ended up replacing the driveshaft u-joints under warranty. I'm not surprised this dealership went out of business.

After checking to be sure everything is tight, be sure to check your tire pressure. If it seems to get worse I'd tell them your bringing it in and want a loaner until they check it out. Could become a safety issue.

Just got it from the dealer after having them change the steering gear for TSB

Steering feels loose when steering right but feels tight steering left.

Anyone experience this after TSB steering gear update?
