It can be watched with JSCAN so the data is there. I did use the security gateway bypass but don’t know if it’s required.

JSCAN under:
Modules -> Powertrain Control -> Live Data
PID tcc_turbo_exh_temp

Observations:
Startup ~1400° F
After warmup ~720° F
70mph uphill ~1800° F

It cooled back down to ~800° quickly after exiting the highway.

Apparently some folks on this thread don’t enjoy over thinking, over engineering, and over monitoring everything. Me, if I can’t over think something, then I’m not even going to bother thinking about it. Wait that makes no sense…let me think about that.

This thread is ridiculous.

Y'all gunna be installing A’Pexi turbo timers next as if it’s 1998.

diesel and 2.0 are not the same at all. Plus that diesel manual is stating cooldowns for a loaded vehicle. Not a regular 2.0 with some cargo casually driving down the highway.

stop the insanity.

every damn truck you see on America’s highways are turbocharged but suddenly Jeep owners need J-Scan to monitor EGT’s (rolls eyes).

id be willing to bet more than half the people concerned about this topic run 87 and swear it’s okay to do so.

you wanna cooler EGT’s and a cooler turbo? Cut the shit and run 91/93. End of thread.
Anecdotal, but only the older rigs had pyrometers when I started driving trucks in 1972. From my 76 Pete up they didn’t. Common sense works.

A bypass is required only for making changes (e.g. clearing codes, adaptations, and activations).
JScan can clear codes without the bypass. I used the app and VLinker to clear the CEL last night on my wife's JLU, it was on for an EVAP leak. You just need the bypass cables when doing the adaptations and activations as mentioned.

Not sure why this is still going, but if the OP still cares I drove my 2.0L Turbo 3000+ miles to the Grand Canyon and back on highways where the speed limit was 80mph. I never considered a cool-off period at any stop along the way. It's my daily driver and coming off the highway it has a few minutes of in-town speed before I park it in the garage. So far, no issues.

The manual (for the ecodiesel) literally states a 1 minute cool down after heavy use. We do thousands of miles of roadtrips a year. Not once have I been able to go from the freeway to the gas pump in less than a minute. The cool down is built into the offramp to stop sign/signal to parking lot to pump by a margin of at least 3x in my experience. Not to mention if you are trying to make Nascar pit stop refueling there's no coking as you're back on the freeway before anything cools down anyway. It's not a thing period.

There are a few places we’ve been where we come off the freeway and immediately have a gas station. This one is only about 1500 ft.

Well, yeah, but it's an affordable and good carne asada burrito... so, fuck the turbo. :)

And even still unless you leave the cruise controll on and panick stop at the off ramp you'll be over 1 minute of deceleration, stop, turn into the parking lot, and pull up to the pump? It's an internet issue at best. Sure you could find a county highway where you could go from 65mph to a hard right and stop at the pump in 15 seconds, so let it idle for 45 seconds in that extremely rare occurrence.

But there is this one time in this really obscure occasion that one person happened the one time so that means you need to idle your turbo car for an hour before shutting it off.

I don’t understand the resistance to letting it idle for a minute if the situation warrants it. I’m not saying it’s required every time. Heck it may not ever be required, but it won’t hurt to give it a little help cooling off.

It’s also worth pointing out that not every location is the same. I see my highest temps on I-35 S because there’s always a headwind and in the summer we’re clearing 100° outside.
