If I'm not mistaken the gearing isn't shown on the sport models (sport s and up) or it is only on models with 7in or 8.4in radio packages. My friends 2018 doesn't have it
My apologies, the post above made me realize that not all dashboards always show the transfer case indicator as the photo above I posted is from a rubicon instrument cluster. Either way, the lever is mechanical so you should be able to switch the transfer case to 4High even if all your electronics were inoperable (although if your electronics are inoperable, you’ll have a different issue as the FAD will not connect so even though your transfer case will shift into 4high, your front axle will be disconnected, but that’s totally beside the point). The lever itself will become easier and easier to shift with use.
Super helpful, I got it finally! Thank you all so much, glad to be apart of the forum with so much great advice and knowledge :)

My plan after the holidays are over is to more than likely get JSCAN up and running and turn TPMS off, I’m just tired of dealing sensor issues.
Got mine up and running for a tire size change. Surprisingly easy

I find meaningless differences between Sport, Sahara and Rubicon like this one absurd. And there are so many of them.

Sport, Sahara and Rubicon now have different grilles, different fenders, different bumpers, hoods, door panels, spare carriers, instrument panels, etc., etc.

FCA would save us buyers a bundle if it standardized and shared components across models as widely as possible, instead of generating endless permutations of every little piece.
The fenders, hood, and bumpers are part of the appeal to Rubicon. I didn't know the spare tire carrier was different. Hoping I don't run into any issues with rubi take offs on a sport s. The instrument panel thing got me. Never seen a model run different instrument clusters based off of the trim level.

I know right? Please don't alert the authorities, I live in California and I think that and disabling ESS will get me the chair here.
Don't sweat it Jim. Newsome just issued a moratorium on executions and evictions. So run em low and don't worry.

Your situation was the same for me with feeling like it would break something to shift 4WD first few drives. An old school dealer mechanic shared this to loosen:
Out of traffic: from stop, let up brake, coast in idle.
Shift transmission to Neutral while coasting
With one swift tug straight back, pull back into 4H, it won't break it.
Still while coasting, shift transmission to Drive.
Drive a bit in 4H
Repeat this to go back to 2WD.
After a while as others say, it loosens up.

Rubicon and Sahara share bumpers and grilles, Sport and Sahara share fenders and hood, Sport and Rubicon share interior door panels. Sport fenders and bumpers are unique, Rubicon hood, fenders and tire carrier are unique. Sahara dashboard covers are unique. Sahara and Rubicon turn signals don’t fit Sport. Now it appears Sport instrument panel is also unique. I am sure there many more differences no one even notices. Willys has its own grille. High Altitude has its own rear axle. For awhile Sahara had its own V6 and transfer case. It is all one big mixed salad.

Imagine Parts Manager across 3,000 dealerships managing spare part inventories for all of these silly permutations. All of this nonsense ads significant cost.

I thought Sahara bumpers were their own. I think the instrument cluster for the sport s, Sahara, and Rubicon are the same. Mine is the same as yours from what I can tell. Its just the sport that is a messed up child I guess.

Sahara and Rubicon bumpers are the same; Sahara bumpers have silver inserts, Rubicon’s have charcoal inserts, that’s it. The same with the grilles. Although Sahara and Rubicon don’t share fenders, they share turn signals. Sport, on the other hand hand, doesn’t share fenders or turn signals with either.

Rubicon with leather seats shares door panels and center armrest with Sahara; Rubicon with cloth seats shares door panels and armrest with Sport. However, if you order a Rubicon with the Mopar leather seats, you get Sport center armrest and door panels.

Rubicon has unique seat back covers, regardless of cloth or leather. Sahara with leather seats gets unique stitched dashboard covers. However, Sahara with cloth seats, and Sahara Altitude, share the gray dashboard covers with Sport and some Rubicons.

And the list of cosmetic “differences” goes on and on.

FCA’s attention to minutiae is laughable when 95% of these “differences” make no real difference to buyers; they only add complexity and cost.

The instrument clusters are based on whether you have to technology package or not. Sport and Sport s models without it will have a 5” Uconnect system, and a smaller B&W digital cluster... If you ask me it’s ridiculous that the 7” infotainment and larger cluster are not standard an all models. They’re standard in Europe...

A lot of things are standard in EU that aren't here. Audi developed some pretty sweet headlights that the US isn't getting because of the laws and regulations we have. The lights are designed to be safer but our regulations prevent us from getting them because our regulations keep us safe

Its pretty hard to move at first. After a few times it starts to loosen up. Its best to be rolling at a constant speed so the gears can align easier.
It might be because it's still a virgin cable.
