I have a 2020 JL Wrangler with only 12,000 miles. Clearly, I don't drive it much. I started getting indications that the battery was getting bad when Auto-Stop stopped working and a new message appeared on my display indicating that the "auxiliary switches wouldn't operate because the batter was charging" (?). I took it to the dealer and both the main and ESS batteries needed replacement. I had charged the main battery, but it apparently did not hold it's charge. So, I knew the dealer was not trying to sell me a battery when I didn't need it. Long intro for my question:

Does it make sense to keep my Jeep on a trickle charger between starts? My daily trips are less than 10 miles and I usually get to where I'm going in less than 15 minutes. I have a motorcycle on a trickle charger and all has been good for 4 years. I just don't know about the pros/cons of a charger on the JL. Any help would be appreciated.

I also have a 2020 jlr and have been using a go pro genius 10x1 continuously for quite a while. Every time my jeep is not being used it’s plugged into the outlet for the go pro 10x1. It does as advertised.
I changed my battery system to the dual genesis system so it charges both batteries at the same time. Shane has a good video on this you should watch. My jlr only has 17000 miles on it and all is well.

I have a NOCO Genius 5. I assume that will work.
I started off with a Battery Tender Plus 1.25, then went to a Noco 5 amp and after 4 years settled in with a 10 amp Noco. A 10 amp is all I will use on either the Aux or Main battery.

The 10 amp Noco is aok to use with with both the Main and the smaller Aux.

I as well as many other's on the forum, found the smaller amp tender/maintainers do not do deal with the Main battery as well as the higher amp tender/maintainers do.

You are better off just going with a 10 amp Noco charger maintainer vs. the 5 amp Novo.

Ok, but if a wire the main battery will it also maintain the aux battery as well?

I have both the 5 and 10 amp Noco. I use the 10 amp for the Jeep and the 5 amp to maintain other batteries.
Here’s a general comparison at 50% depth of discharge from Noco’s website

yes, it should. The main and aux batteries are wired in parallel. Because you are effectively charging 2 batteries, I agree with others' recommendations to use a 4, 5, or 10 amp charger with a float/maintenance ability. I use a Battery Tender 4 amp.

Yes, hook up the tender/maintainer's clamps to the Main battery Pos and Neg terminals and both Aux and Main are maintained.

You can leave the tender/maintainer attached 24/7, 365 with no worries... Set your Noco to the AGM setting!

Reconsider your use of the 4 amp tender/maintainer.

Most old timers here found out... some the hard way .... that you need to use a 10 amp tender/maintainer.

I've actually had great success using a 4 amp to maintain batteries, including a dual-battery setup in a diesel. For charging a depleted battery, yes, I'd recommend something with more wallop, and if you need it to charge faster. Not accounting for loss, a 10amp charger can charge a 70ah battery from theoretical 0% to full in 7 hours, and using a 4 amp would take about 17.5 hours.

I'd like to hear how a 4-amp is maintainer is inadequate for dual battery maintenance, with more than just anecdotal evidence. Can you post a link?

Doh! AGM setting. Wonder what happens if you haven’t used that setting for charging. I guess I will find out since I haven’t..

Please read this post: https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/fo...t-question-for-the-experts.66343/post-1785349

5a charger is not adequate for the main battery. The Noco-10 is a very good option as it will handle just about everything in your garage.

I ended up with the (now discontinued) Odyssey 20a that I use exclusively with my Odyssey main battery. Their website says it’s being superseded by a CTek model: https://www.odysseybattery.com/products/obc-20a-battery-charger/

Anyhow, you can’t go wrong with a Noco-10 as @Rhinebeck01 recommends. I have one that I use for the lithium battery in my generator and for all my other vehicle batteries. I gave my noco-5 away to a family member.
