I have a 2022 Sport with the 3.6 e-Torque 2 door. I am looking to tow a trailer hauling a motorcycle. Maximum weight will be around 1,600 to 1,900 lbs.

I live in the Appalachian Mountains, so I will encounter a lot of hills. I am looking at making a couple of 6 hour trips as well.

I feel comfortable with the power, just curious if the axles are heavy duty enough for this application. Dana 35 I believe. Also, if I keep the transmission temps reasonable, should I be ok?

An open trailer will be easier to tow than enclosed and will help quite a bit. Not sure if the open MC trailers come with brakes, but that would certainly be helpful in the hills.

You should not have any issues, but your gas mileage will likely be awful, which is expected with a Jeep.

I also have a two door and just pulled a ~2,000lb enclosed trailer from Detroit to NYC and it handled much better than I was expecting. I barely noticed the weight, and only really noticed the trailer with some sway during large gusts of wind.

I also have the 2.0T, 4.10’s, D44 axles, but I’m loaded down a bit with off-road gear, the jeep was packed to the gills, and I’m sitting on 35’s with a 2.5” lift. I would say with my mods (and assuming your Jeep is stock) the driving experience would be similar.

I probably didn’t encounter climbs or descents that would resemble the Appalachian mountains, but I can’t imagine I would have struggled much, as I was able to maintain or even exceed the 70-75mph speed limits if I chose.

Some things I would be wary of are your brakes and stopping distance. I know the Rubicons come with bigger brakes, but if I were to do that all the time, I would definitely like an upgrade.

I say go for it, but take your time and be safe out there.

You will likely need to downshift out of overdrive otherwise the transmission will be hunting gears worse than it does now.
