Does any Jeep Wrangler tow 5000 pounds? My 2014 Cherokee was rated to tow 4500 pounds and was actually quite good at towing roughly the 4000 pound trailer & cargo total. I called Jeep support to inquire about this question and they were completely useless as is the website.

According to their marketing literature? Absolutely.

Unfortunately we've seen no evidence that they actually exist.

I asked the dealer to respond to this question. We'll see if I get an answer. For me, the difference between a 3500 pound and a 5000 pound rating is the ability to comfortably rent a U-Haul enclosed 6'x12' trailer or haul my paperweight classic car, too. I guess this is why people opt for the Gladiator, but the extra truck bed length makes it a no-go for one of my household drivers. I suppose we could get a Grand Cherokee, which tows 6200 pounds, but where is the fun in that?

According to their marketing literature? Absolutely.

Unfortunately we've seen no evidence that they actually exist.

Reviving to show some extra information - From latest 2024 owners manual...
It does show that a 4dr, 3.6 or 2.0 has a 5000lb rating but with the 4.10 ge.aring and OEM 285 tires.

However...if you reference the top section that the Class II hitch is only up to 3500lbs, and that is what comes stock on the Rubicon tow package from what I've seen so far. It's still limited to the 3500. Otherwise it should have a class III hitch. May be an option but haven't found any reference

We haven't seen one with the specs that indicate it has a 5k rating. I'd know for sure if my build sheet extractor was still running, but unfortunately it isn't.

This would be the one thing that might actually tempt me into a new one.

From what I have been able to figure out, you have to meet the following to be rated at 5,000 lb towing:
1.) Rubicon 2024 with full float rear axle.
2.) The 3.6 or 2.0 engine, but not the 2.0 4Xe. (Not sure why not 4Xe, as it has a lot of torque).
3.) 4.10 (or even lower geared) axle.
4.) Original size 285 tires (about 32 or 33" diameter)
5.) Properly rated hitch.

I think the thing that might be killing the 5K rating for some of you is that you have either an under-rated hitch (relatively easy upgrade), or you have the 315 (35") or bigger tires.

Have you seen one that claims to be rated to tow 5k pounds?

No, not an actual one yet. I bet very few exist "out in the world". as it's likely that Rubicon owners rarely stick to stock 285's and / or don't bother to upgrade the tow hitch. Even if they do upgrade the tow hitch after receiving their Jeep, the sticker rating is still going to say 3,500 since it came from the factory with the lower capacity hitch. I guess someone would need to factory order the higher rated hitch to get the "5K sticker". No XR package, either with its 35" tires.

I'm thinking it never made it past marketing and into production.

Unfortunately, that is quite possible. But, it does beg the question of whether they open themselves up to "false advertising" claims.

A dealer responded to my inquiry stating they couldn't comment on the 4 door Rubicon towing 5k pounds because of a liability issue. Which is obviously a disappointing response. The ability to tow 5k pounds on rare occasions is a huge selling point. Marketed, but not actually sold seems very misleading.

PIcked up my ride today and was able to get a build breakdown sheet for it. I do have the standard 4.10/3.6/33" tire set up but per the break out sheet, the hitch is a Class II from the factory. I checked aftermarket Class III hitches at the etrailer site. The 2024 options did show 5000 and those @ 5K also mention "when using weight distributing. So maybe doable but on your dime for the proper equipment to hopefully avoid issues with Jeep if there were problems. Also found this. Still different "requirements" to be able to tow depending on where they got the info, but weren't specific. These guys say it's because of the floating axle, nothing about the other requirements.

So pretty much, Jeep falsely advertised the 5k towing capacity. If all they supply their vehicles with is a class 2 hitch, they can’t tow 5k pounds. I’ve also never seen a trailer brake controller they showed in some of the pre production Jeeps.

How do you find out your "official" tow capacity on the vehicle? I don't see it listed on any of the door jamb stickers, not on the the original window sticker? So not sure how to know if you have the officlal 5K tow rating?
