I'm guessing the hinges on your rear window are black. Spraying black makes sense to me because it totally blends in with that hardware. It's why I went that route even with Ocean Blue. I didn't want them noticeable, and frankly, I haven't even noticed them knowing they are there since installing them. Whatever is your taste though.

Though if you have body color top, then I could see why you feel that way. Really any hard setting paint should work, so find silver if that's your bet, and worst case, you spray some on a piece of cardboard and touch up as needed after dropping your top.
Can you possibly give me the measurement from bracket to bracket?

Mine are in the mail now. I was going to pull the trigger on the racor lift too, but the most recent reviews about how the lift has changed has me very worried. For the price, I'm thinking of passing now. I think what I'll do is wait and get the topsy stuff installed and pull it all through to see how I want to construct something of my own. I'm currently envisioning 5 pulleys and a trailer winch or something like that.....t.
I was thinking the same thing. $180 for a lift that has to be modified to feel secure using? Seem a bit over priced to me. May have to make my own.

Using my Topsy brackets with my homemade hoist and rig.
That's what I'm talking about. Kinda what I had in mind. Make a frame to attach the clips/straps to, and then devise a hoist for that frame. Any details on your hoist method?

For people that have recently ordered the Topsy brackets, what was the wait time?

Mine is based on this man's design. I used it with my 2014 JKU Sport and had to modify it to work with my JLUR. I switched to using the Topsy brackets for the rear(can keep rear glass closed!) and the I had to balance it out(the JLU's top is more front heavy).

Excellent, thanks for the info. I actually happen to have that same block & tackle. I had bought it for a one time job, so I think it may have just found a new use.
I've been going to order a Topsy kit, but was waiting to decide if I was going to use an overhead lift or find another method. I'll design mine to work with the Topsy hooks, and strap (the $50 kit, not the hinge bracket only kit).
Like the guy in the video, I'm going to be guessing at the center point. Any measurement on yours to get me close to the balance point?

Have you had any issues with getting the cover on/off since it can spin around on a single point?
I guess I could put some guide wires on the frame to keep it from spinning to much, or so I can guide it as I raise/lower the top.

Still waiting on my Jeep, can someone tell me the distance between the Topsy brackets once mounted? Want to fish the rear straps onto my racor before I bolt it all down.

If you put them on the support beam, they can slide. You want that. You won’t always back your Jeep in exactly perfect. And you don’t want it to swing.

Here’s how I attached mine.

@STLYoungblood - I greatly appreciate it. My drops from the ceiling will be where the red dots are on the attached picture. If you wouldn't mind, could you shoot me the dimensions of the yellow lines? Thanks a lot for your help.

I'll do this tomorrow morning before I start work (working at home tomorrow). Got some family nonsense keeping me away from it right now.

No rush - totally understand!
Ok, I was alone, so the measurements from front to back and front side to side aren't perfect, but they're pretty close:

Hinge Bracket to Bracket: 34 3/8 ish
Front Top Side to Side: 59"
Front to back: 95"

Hope that helps!

This may not be the correct place to ask, but in every picture I have seen in this thread, the Racor is mounted so the center beam runs parallel with the Jeep. In my garage the rafters run parallel with my Jeep, so if I mounted directly to the rafters my center beam would be perpendicular to the Jeep. Is there any reason that I can not / should not do this?
