Today I got a couple of straps and clasps to secure the rear of my hard top to the lift. I'm already using a cargo strap for the front of the top, so I didn't need to buy that. This setup cost about $15. The clasps are ITWs made in the USA. I'm not 100% sure but Topsy's may be foreign made knockoffs. I'm sure they're fine, just a personal preference.

There are a couple of advantages here. One, I can get the straps in blue. Which is what I wanted. Two, I can adjust the length of those straps by how I use with the clasps. Check the photos for examples. Here are links on where to buy at Amazon if you're interested.

Ya know, if I had read those reviews, I might have held off on buying one like you have. However I will say that thus far I haven't had a problem with it. That plastic gear piece is a bit of a concern though. I think I'll put a u-bolt there like one buyer did to cover my ass. Fortunately I'm using it only for my top and the freedom panels. That's probably less than half of the max weight rating.

Oh, and one thing I've noticed on a few installs. Some folks aren't putting lag bolts in the holes that are next to the pulleys. IMO that's a mistake. There is probably a lot of pressure on those arms at that point. I installed the bolts there and I highly recommend everyone else do that same.
It's still on my radar, and I've considered hanging it and also adding in some chain supports on hooks to actually hold the weight once it's up where I want it, that way there isn't any reliance on the lift itself, other than raising or lowering. Assuming you don't unwind the shelf cord all the way, I don't have a lot of concerns with the plastic cam since pressure should be still on the metal spin cylinder. And yea, I totally agree on not using lagbolts being a mistake. When I hung the hooks for my door hangars I used a 2x8 with like 8-10 lag bolts per board lol. When it needs to stay, it needs a lag bolt.

Got mine today, haven't installed yet because they were red though I thought I ordered black, and well...I guess I didn't read carefully lol.

I think I'm going to prime and paint all but the base that slides under the screws black so they are a bit more inconspicuous when I do get them installed since they are on 24x7. I'll toss up some pics when done. I have some doubts about the paint holding up, but we'll see.

Yeah I’m waiting for them to offer black before I order mine

Installed my racor lift Saturday. The topsy brackets and straps worked great. Very easy to use.

Great to hear. From drive into garage what’s your guess in minutes To top is off? I’m guessing bolts on Freedomtop take longer than strap and lift?

Thx.

I had the same thing happen. I know I selected black- but I got red with black straps. Oh well, red wasn’t a negative anyway, I just had black to match the top. Meh.

Putting it all together next weekend. Fingers crossed.

I have 8’2 ceilings in the garage. Does anyone have similar?

Removing the bolts is the most time consuming part. Attacking the straps and cranking the top off takes just a couple minutes

I haven't measured my ceiling yet, but I think mine is probably closer to like 11-12'. I ordered my racor lift and it should be here on Wednesday. Some of the reviews have me a bit worried about it collapsing at some point, so I plan on getting some chain and lag bolting a few eye hooks near the lift and I'll chain the rack after I get it hoisted as an emergency catch in case of failure. That or potentially using some straps as a backup. I'll figure it out once I get the hoist installed.

They are all red at the moment. Color selection was for the strap color only. Future batches will be black.

You're not wrong, I just didn't pay attention so was surprised when they showed up. This was the paint I decided to go with:

https://www.lowes.com/pd/Krylon-Automotive-Black-Spray-Paint-Actual-Net-Contents-12-oz/1000248379

It looks good (will post picture when I remember), hardly notice at all against the hardtop. Still have doubts about chipping and stuff, but I don't mind doing the occasional touch up. Hell, noticed I missed a spot after attached, sprayed some on cardboard, picked up on paper towel, dabbed on, good to go.
