I'm slowly working on upgrading the Jeep (2018 JLU Rubicon). Primarily a daily driver but sees off-road time. Last upgrade was to go to 315 BFG KO2s on the stock rims and I've been happy with it. The internal debate I'm kind of stuck on is to either install a winch on the factory steel bumper (probably a Warn Zeon 10s) or install a lift (probably a Mopar 2 inch lift). Personally I think the lift is more practical, but have had some feedback from friends that I should go with a winch.

Also factoring into the decision is my wife (who swears she is 5'0") and two kids (who inherited their mother's height gene) under 10.

Any feedback would be appreciated!

I would definitely go for the winch next. The lift will just make you more confident to do harder obstacles where the winch will become more and more necessary. Recovery gear should come first. Besides, it's not always about you. A winch helps other Jeepers out there, too. Lol.

Do you offroad with others that have a winch or do you ride solo?

Thanks for the all the feedback. The winch would definitely be a fun project.

@chevymitchell the "Besides, it's not always about you" got a good laugh. Are you sure you aren't my wife?

@ChattVol I have always wheeled in a group.

Lift! A winch will bring down your front height, and you already have bigger tires. I think you’ll enjoy the lift every day. The winch...ehh. If you go by your wife and kids height, you’d never get the lift. But you know you want it!

Full disclosure: I’m having the same debate, but I don’t think I’ll really do anything that will require the winch. So I’m leaning lift

If you never wheel alone and/or someone in the group already has a winch, go lift.
