To answer your questions, yes I do live in an igloo in the winter, yes I do have a pet moose, no I do not have any cobra chickens as pets, as they are too vicious to be domesticated.

This is what I’m looking for. I want the tires to fit within the fenders like stock but I want the increased clearance of 35’s.

Also did I mention that the first tires I'm gonna buy is winter tires? All season might as well be all summer tires for all the good they do around here in the winter....
Try getting through on ATs (assuming you choose one with 3pmsf rating). Around Kamloops town should be ok.. you can still get by in unploughed roads as long as it's not steep hill.

General Grabber ATX is a studdable AT tire with 3pmsf. Over here in lower mainland BC, studs are not allowed.. Is it the same in Okanagan too?

This will work as it's only if you have a Rubicon (high fender flares and wider axles)
Sport and Sahara will have rubbing issues both on the height clearance to fenders and rubbing Lower control arm at full lock turn.

Thing is that I'm actually about 45 mins west of Kamloops, and I do a lot of highway driving as well, with the occasional trip over the Coquihalla. Also, we have issues in the winter where we have snow, a slight thaw, then freeze. Also growing up, I was taught to never skimp on two things, necessary insurance (car, travel, life if you can afford it), and winter tires.

Yes, sorry if I didn't make that clear! I am getting a JLU Rubicon with Steel bumpers (I remember hearing that they are a "stubby" variety of size and make a small difference with clearance).

The steel bumpers don’t come stubby, the rear is still a full length and the front has caps on the end you can take off to make it a stubby. Clearance issues would only appear with a tire size larger than the 35s you’re looking at, at extreme flex, while keeping the wheels turned.

a 35x11.5 tire will fit your stock rims and should stay under the fender flares. I’d just pick up a cheap pair of steel/alloy rims and throw your winter tires on those when necessary.

Basically my plan is to have two sets of rims, one for winters and one for summers to make the tire switch easier & faster. My jeep will (if the 6 month timeline is to be believed) likely be arriving in the dead of winter, making the purchase of winters necessary as soon as it arrives. I won't be getting anything flashy for the rims likely either. I just need to know more about sizing, so I can figure this out!

When you look at tires it gives a rim width range that the tire will fit in. So what you’re looking for is a 35x11.5 and that’ll fit on your stock rims.

Also, since no one else mentioned it. If you are confused by the tire sizes that are not simple diameter/width -
315/70r17 translated:
315 is the tread width in mm (315 divided by 2.54 = 12.4 inches)
70 is the aspect ratio, meaning the sidewall is 70% of the tread width (70% of 12.4 = 8.7 inches)
17 is the wheel diameter

so...8.7" x 2 (for each sidewall) + 17" (wheel) gives you an overall diameter of 34.4 inches.
But this is like the pirate code, it's more like guidelines than actual rules.

Exactly why I needed help with this! I was so confused, and didn't know where to look up this stuff1 I think the place I was messing up the most was the sidewall ratio, and not knowing where to look for that! I knew my tire width, I knew what size rim options I had, it was figuring that last piece and how it worked that I scratching my head over! Thank you so much for helping me understand better!

In reality you don't have an infinite choice of widths for a 35" tire. Not like you can decide on a BFG AT KO2 and they make 10 different widths for a 35" tire (I mean significant width difference, not like 12.42" vs. 12.36"....). If you look at tire selections, for example 17" rims and around 35" tall, most manufacturers only offer 1 or 2 width options. The vast majority of tire companies have 35" tires that are around 12.5" wide, which includes the 315/70R17 size. If you want a specific width like a 35x10.5 you are going to be limited to only a few tire styles.

In regards to using the stock wheels, there is no issue running a 12.5" wide tire on them.

There is no issue running 12.5 on 7.5 rim (its even called the poor man's beadlock) and does just fine. Most tire shops will refuse to mount it.. that's the issue.

If you’re looking for a set of snow tires, nokian hakkapelittas come in a 315/70/17. Find someone’s take off rubicon rims, and mount these up. They’ll fit that rubicon, no issues. I’m running a 35x12.5-17” toyo MT on our JL rubicon. I'm in alberta, and understand why you need winter tires there, lol! Done the coq many a time in the winter, and the connector as well. That one gets nasty at times!
