I'll have to keep that in mind with mine. Did you have to unseat the tire to fix it? I carry Colby replacement valve stems but never thought of them breaking off.

The last time (last weekend) we went wheeling, one of the guys removed two of my deflators and spun the collars, rendering my 12 pound setting useless. Now I have to reset them. Anything on the Staun that prevents accidental turning of the knob/collar ring?
I just tighten the lock nuts with pliers, they won't move on accident.

I love the Apex deflators BUT they are fragile and depending on which wheel you are using they are prone to be snapped of by passing rocks.... Hutchison Rockmonsters for example...

Yeah I would be cautious even with rubber valvestems on that wheel. Is this their double beadlock wheel?

Yes it is .. Great wheels and easy to assemble or breakdown (which I did on while camping on the Rubicon to replace that valve stem). But also very heavy. Pretty sure my 37" Nitto Trail Grapplers and Rockmonsters were 125lbs a piece :)

The Apex stems are really more applicable to the deeper dish rims but they certainly do work amazingly well.

Yes .. most definitely. In my case, the Hutchison's breakdown pretty easily and the valve stem is on the "face" of the beadlock so you aren't completely breaking down the wheel/tire to get at the inside of the wheel. But, yes, carrying a spare is not a bad ideal if you are going to be out on the trails for a couple days.

But Hutchinsons weigh like eleventy million pounds.

I could see that on those wheels. I dunno what they were thinking when they put the valve stems in that location. Maybe the design just doesn't accomodate a better location.

Mine are burried in so far on the Icon Rebound Pros, nothing is likely to ever get in there. But I've been trying my hardest.

The older I get the lazier I am getting. With these TeraFlex Nomdas, by the time I walk around the Jeep the tires are deflated to their pre-set PSI

+1 for Teraflex Nomad wheels. So easy and fast to air down!

Been using Stauns for the past 5 or 6 years, and they haven't failed me yet.
I start at the drivers side front, and go around. By the time I get back to the first one, it's usually done.
Have mine set at 19 pounds.

I wheeled this weekend and one of my Stauns is still off. I've set them all up like 3 or 4 times now and still 3 of them deflated to 15psi and the 4th deflated to 18. It's driving me kind of insane.

I use one of those deflators that's a pressure gauge that lets you remove the valve core. Fast and accurate. I used to use a set of those cap types, but they were slow.

Similar to this one

Agreed that it's fast and accurate, but it's also a pain in the ass to have to babysit it four friggin times. And, of course, every once in a while you screw up twisting the wrong thing at the wrong time and have to deal with the valve stem coming out.

Stauns are nowhere near as accurate, but they're soooo much easier. They give you a chance to chat with others before starting the trail. Very little babysitting required.
