So I have all doors off and I have some mirrors that slide into my hinges that happen to move around a whole lot when I’m driving...I get home and I like to back into my spot but can’t see cause my passenger mirror is pointed the wrong way so I lifted myself off the seat to see better and the Jeep felt like it was thrown into park and the R was flashing on my shifter .....anyone heard of not having weight on the seat causing the trans to stop??? As soon as I sat back down I had to put it into park then reverse again.

It is called a driver occupant safety device.
Never get out or even up when backing up.
Serious bodily harm and or death may occur.
Ask your dealer if it is right for you.

@LittleG

Normal behavior you are seeing.

You can disable auto park with a TazerJL or TazerJL Lite programmer.

Yes...this is called AutoPark. From the owner’s manual:

If the vehicle is not in PARK and the driver turns off the engine, the vehicle may AutoPark.
AutoPark will engage when all of these conditions are met:
• Vehicle is equipped with an 8-speed transmission
• Drivers door is ajar or in conditions where driver door is removed an additional trigger would be if the driver is off the seat (seat pad sensor detects driver missing).
• Vehicle is not in PARK
• Vehicle Speed is 0 mph (0 km/h)
• Ignition switched from RUN to OFF
NOTE: For Keyless Go equipped vehicles, The engine will turn off and the ignition switch will change to ACC mode. After 30 minutes the ignition switches to OFF automati- cally, unless the driver turns the ignition switch OFF.
If the vehicle is not in PARK and the driver exits the vehicle with the engine running, the vehicle may AutoPark.
AutoPark will engage when all of these conditions are met:
• Vehicle is equipped with an 8-speed transmission
• Drivers door is ajar or in conditions where driver door is removed an aditional trigger would be if the driver is off the seat (seat pad sensor detects driver missing).
• Vehicle is not in PARK
• Driver’s door is removed
• Vehicle speed is 1.2 mph (2.0 km/h) or less
• Driver’s seat belt is unbuckled
• Driver’s door is ajar
• Brake Pedal is not depressed
The MESSAGE “ AutoPark Engaged Shift to P then Shift 6 to Gear” will display in the instrument cluster.
NOTE: In some cases the ParkSense graphic will be displayed in the instrument cluster. In these cases, the shifter must be returned to “P” to select desired gear.
If the driver shifts into PARK while moving, the vehicle may AutoPark.
AutoPark will engage ONLY when vehicle speed is 1.2 mph (2.0 km/h) or less.
The MESSAGE “ Vehicle Speed is Too High to Shift to P” will be displayed in the instrument cluster if vehicle speed is above 1.2 mph (2.0 km/h).

Mine is now disabled via Tazer lite. I’m very happy about it. Annoying it was.
