Just thought I would try to reach out to anyone that has had a problem with a new Jeep draining the battery rather quickly. Original three day old battery had a bad cell. Update Tonight......two weeks later now and the Jeep is dead again this morning. At least the dealer is being honest with me, but they donā€™t know what else to do. We went to pick it up tonight just to drive it around this weekend (with a jump box of course) to try to check it out. Dealer jumped it this morning drove it back, plugged it in and tested but didnā€™t find anything. We go tonight to try to start it to leave and itā€™s dead. Itā€™s been sitting for about 2 hours. Service manager was gone and I guess I wonā€™t get it back this weekend. 300 miles and am trying to remain calm.

Your symptoms point to a bad aux battery. If you want to test yourself, you need to unplug the PCR and disconnect the aux battery negative cable. You should find everything you need to know here https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/fo...y-consolidated-information.25377/#post-602294. You will probably still need to jump start until your main battery gets charged.

Just a question.....why would the aux battery not charge when driving?
The aux batteries seem to have a high failure rate. The battery could fail so that it wouldn't hold the charge and would also drain the main battery. This is how the battery in my TJ failed recently. It wouldn't hold a charge and actually would get hot until the voltage dropped considerably.

It may not be a bad aux battery, but your symptoms match.

Thanks for all the info. My dealership service is closed today so I guess Iā€™m not going to get it back this weekend. If it was home I would check it out myself. Just disappointed that at 300 miles, 150 of them are back and forth to the dealer.

Do you have the 3.6L V6 or the 2.0L Turbo 4? Does the Sahara altitude have 3 batteries? Main, Aux for Electronic Start Stop (ESS), and a 48V for the Battery Start Generator (BSG)? I wonder if there is a system to load the electrical system while connected to a diagnostic machine to trace signal issues? I work in the defense industry and harnesses for our products are tested for the pin to pin signaling, resistance levels, and to reduce the chance of shorts.

Can anyone on the forum who is an ASC certified mechanic shed some light on how this is traditionally diagnosed?

3.6L V6 and I pretty sure it just has the main battery and the aux according to my research.I am going to speak more in depth Monday with the service manager. I donā€™t have a lot of confidence right now with the dealer. My salesman is embarrassed to say the least. Service manager actually said ā€œIā€™m kinda grasping for strawsā€ for answers. This was after they tested it. I just believe itā€™s something more than his thinking. He thinks there is a dome light or something being left on and I assured him that was not the case.
Iā€™m in the service business also and I would of had the manufacturer on the phone as soon as I heard it was coming back in for the same problem if I didnā€™t know where to begin on troubleshooting. My guess there isnā€™t a Jeep specialist onsite. It is a very large dealer and they sell a lot of jeeps. Just makes me wonder. Sorry for the rants.

@JeepCares can you provide an escalation to the level of assistance this owner receives from their dealer. This is unacceptable and these types of stories dominate the mindset of non-Jeep folks who think Jeeps have a lesser reliability. I have had not a single issue with my Jeep and when my Off Road pages disappeared it reappeared about five days after contact from you. I realize that an issue with an OTA is a nit compared to what they are going through with an inoperable brand-new Jeep.
Thank you for tagging us, William. We did reach out to the customer and requested he PM us if assistance is needed.

I did get my Jeep back yesterday from the dealer. Another bad battery was the diagnosis. Sounds crazy to me but that is what the dealer found. We will see.

Itā€™s a Christmas miracle! We were able to get the Jeep back yesterday from the dealer. The Jeep was left on a digital meter overnight to check for any voltage drop. Everything checked out fine :like:after the replacement battery was replaced :surprised: Itā€™s really hard for me to believe Iā€™ve had two bad main batteries. Time will tell. 70 degrees on Christmas Day in Sourhern IN is a good day for a Jeep ride. Merry Christmas!!!

Congratulations and enjoy the Christmas gift and spirit that the Jeep brings. Your day is warmer than ours in Southern Arizona. Go figure. I was telling my wife what a bummer it was that it wasn't in the usual 70 degree range for Christmas.

Picked up my new 2020 Sahara Unlimited Altitude on Friday and she breaks down tonight. Third night and she is sleeping in the cold at a shopping center parking lot! Gonna be towed in the morning back to the dealer. It won't start. Dash screen is showing all kinds of warnings and an outside temp of 106, push button won't turn off the run sequence, all the lights are flashing when you try to push the start button, and screen now says it's not in park. Something is really messed up. Nice way to end the weekend. Only 196 miles!.......WTH

Same symptoms I had and in my case it was a bad alternator from the factory. Replaced under warranty and no issues since (Im now at 20K).
