I still believe the dealer didn’t PDI that Jeep properly.

No dealer will ever admit openly to having screwed up: it makes them look bad with the customer, and FCA wouldn’t reimburse them for their time.

Either way: glad you are back on the road, OP!

this will have the 48 volt aux battery system that is inside the jeep and has to be liquid cooled to keep from catching fire (I think it is inside the vehicle, at least it is on the Ram trucks).
For Wrangler it’s on the outside, mounted underneath the Jeep. (driver’s side, opposite the gas tank)

What is PDI? ... something something inspection? (Sorry! I feel like I should know this...)
PDI = Pre-Delivery Inspection

It actually is a lot more involved than taking a look around the vehicle. It usually involves removing all plastic covers inside and out, removing the factory gunk from the windows, setting up all the electronics properly for customer use, mounting license plate holders, inflating all tires to same PSI, checking fluid levels, filling up the tank, etc.

Sometimes it also includes securing the battery terminals, pushing fuses all the way in, and performing any outstanding TSBs.

Picked up my jeep tonight from the dealer. Final conclusion from dealer was a bad or shorted cell in the main battery. They replaced the battery yesterday, but I told them to keep it overnight to see how it tested today. I guess it's all okay. She drove home fine. :please:
Hi Mark,
We're happy to hear that your dealer was able to assist. Should this return, please feel free to send us a PM. We'd be happy to connect you with a Case Specialist to assist.

RIGHT! Thank you. I had no idea that it was so involved! That's really great to hear (hopefully Canada has the same care)!
They should. They all come out of the same plant.

Oh, maybe I misunderstood? I thought it was inspection from the dealership before releasing it for sale. No?
Correct. My point is, all Jeeps leave the factory in similar condition, whether they are delivered in US or Canada.

Therefore dealers always need to do a PDI, regardless of market.

Well......two weeks old and broke down again. Less than 250 miles and I’m starting to get pissed. Jeep is sitting in my wife’s work parking lot. Waiting on the dealer to pickup and call me back.

No way. Same problem? There must be something that's causing the battery to fail...? Or maybe it just wasn't fixed properly the first time?

Same exact problem and the dealer replaced the battery because of a bad cell.

@JeepCares can you provide an escalation to the level of assistance this owner receives from their dealer. This is unacceptable and these types of stories dominate the mindset of non-Jeep folks who think Jeeps have a lesser reliability. I have had not a single issue with my Jeep and when my Off Road pages disappeared it reappeared about five days after contact from you. I realize that an issue with an OTA is a nit compared to what they are going through with an inoperable brand-new Jeep.

I am not an electrical engineer, but I have been in the mechanical engineering field for 30+ years. We would chalk this up to a systemic issue and do a root cause analysis. To have cells go bad in two batteries in 250 miles would be a very low probability and as @TrailJoy implied I don't think they did a thorough enough investigation. That said electrical is a mystery into itself and probably why I gravitated towards mechanical, which is far more intuitive when something goes wrong.

I suppose it's possible that it's just a bad batch of batteries. but that's a big reach, if you ask me.
