Just the other day, near miss. Driver texting, looking down.

There's a part of me, that I'm not too proud of, that says if Singapore's streets are immaculate because getting caught littering will result in you being caned (that's one "n" -- i.e. the whip and lashes kind, not the two "n" kind we buy tuna fish in) that maybe we should consider that too for texting and driving, at least upon second offense.

I must be getting "old." There's a part of me that just wants to grab such offenders by the shirt collar and scream:

"Do you have any idea how you put yourself, others, your vehicle, theirs, and other pedestrians and property at risk by doing this?"

"Do you realize how stupish you are being?" (Stupish = selfish + stupid.)

"What on earth message couldn't wait for you to pull over and read, let alone respond to?"

"Do you realize that no matter how good a driver you are, or more likely 'think' you are, that on your best day, completely focused, there are going to be unavoidable accidents you face? So given that, do you not appreciate that texting while driving only compromises your abilities that much more?"

New Federal law: catch and identify anyone texting and driving on film and bring it to the authorities. First offense: the driver pays $300. You get $200, the local judicial system that processed the matter: $100 for their time and administrative cost.

Don't pay: license revoked.

Such a law doubly incentivizes: positively the enforcers, negatively the infractors.

I've got two inexpensive REXING VP1 cameras (the rear camera that comes with the dual camera is 640x480 resolution and not good for nighttime use) . They are the only ones I've seen that are really small & you can mount directly on a vertical windshield and get a proper view. Mount up high on both the windshield and the back window. Been running these for the past 2-3 years and they are bulletproof. The only issue I have is having to change the time for DST/EST

Funny I have tons of footage of idiot drivers from my dash cam. It's unbelievable here. I also have footage of a high center on a 3ft median on I-25, countless people blindly running read lights, etc. If only I had a side camera to show the absolutely insane amount of people texting and driving.
LOL - I'll bet. We used to take RTD back & forth to work downtown. You'd be amazed/sickened/aghast at the things folks do while they're "driving"!

I purchased the same dash cam and had it installed last week at a local a/v shop. I got it because I heard from several people who live in Phoenix that it holds up to the heat. I've been having problems with the sticky mount sliding down from the weight of the mount. This is in the garage so no direct sunlight. I took the cam off for now to see if the glue will have a little more time to set.

Have you had this problem with these? Any suggestions? My wife and I got rear-ended last year and while it was minor the dash cam would have helped speed things up. I already got rear-ended in my JL but it was no damage to me (1 Mph pool ball scenario). So I definitely see the need to run one of these.

I've been using a Waylens for the past few years but starting to wonder what to do with it when I get my Wrangler. It's a pain to constantly put up and take down but there's no chance it'll last long when the Jeep is open. Trying to come up with some ingenious way to conceal it.

Dash cameras are illegal in most states. Why is nobody even talking about that? They are windshield obstructions, not to mention data privacy laws...restrictions...etc.

Because the point of this thread isn't what I can't do with my 100% absolutely legal dash cam.

Wut ...

My dash camera is mounted behind my rearview. Since I don't have X-ray vision, it is not an obstruction.

Last time I checked, people driving around in public have zero legal expectation of privacy. I mean ... license plates, and your vehicle in general, are supposed to be publicly viewable to such an extent that you're expected to light them to MAKE SURE people can see them ...

Thanx for the legal advise and the "warning" as it was intended. {hangs head in shame for not considering the law} :movember:
Dash cams are excellent tools, and have proven themselves time and time again in accident investigations. I really don't care what anyone thinks and will continue to use them. Only an officer with a 30# badge will write a citation for that. As far as privacy, you're out in public space, cameras are everywhere and are used all the time. You cause damage to me or anyone else I can help, I can use my videos to document your stupidity and guilt.

I got rear ended a couple of years ago and although the police report and the statement of a witness and the person who hit me stated verbatim that she just ran into my stopped car. Later, she claimed to her insurance that she wasn't at fault. It took a while to get it settled even with the obvious report of fault. Dash cam footage would have been stellar.

I had the original mount on another car for a couple of years without issue. When I re-installed in the Jeep I used 3m body molding tape (avail at most auto parts stores) You should prep the windshield first and make sure it's completely clean and free of any Armor All or cleaner residue. Keep in mind, it's a pressure sensitive adhesive, you need to apply pressure for a few minutes for it to seat and adhere properly.

"some" states have laws on windshield obstructions... the crux is actually in audio recording of occupants without their knowledge.
