The guy stirring up stuff that said “the government spent a lot of money bailing you guys out”. Either this video is really old or it is likely those guys were not even building cars back in 2008. He is right up there with the jerks that like to tell cops “l pay your salary”.

Union labor at its best! At least they’re relaxed…though they scrambled like cockroaches when approached….bring on the robots.
Most of the line is already robots and automation, compared to the days of old there are very few people on line making cars, comparatively. If they could replace them cost effectively, they would.

I develop on line tooling/fixtures/assembly stations, etc for the auto industry. When we develop this stuff we try to remove as much of the human factor as possible to produce repeatable accurate components/vehicles. Humans are tricky though and they will find every way to disable this stuff or work arounds if it annoys them. Sometimes you get a clever worker on the line that will modify it to "make it work better" without any sort of approval oversight. That's always great.

as long as we charge taxes on the robots. I'm all for the robots but not at the expense of 10 employees running a factory making 25M$ each. Tax robots like employees.

What? The company already paid to design and engineer the robot. Not a person, and doesn't take breaks for beer and a joint.

This is unfortunately way more common than people know. Unions protect the bad employees, no wonder quality in new cars sucks.
These same guys in the video were fired, and Chrysler was forced to hire them back, and compensate them for their "troubles".

Being drunk and stoned while building shitty cars is one thing, what's worse is everyday they are driving around drunk and stoned.

At what rate? 50%? Let's say we tax the robots half of what they make a year, so $0 x .5. Think of all the good that could be done with all that cash by the responsible governments!!

The auto plants I worked in had pretty strict drug & alcohol policies that we had to abide by too.
If you tested positive you were done for the duration that product was manufactured at the plant.
When at GM boxwood rd, we were making Malibus. But at that time the plant was expanding to make Saturn's. If you got busted you weren't allowed back till after the Saturn's were done.

"Tax the robots" brilliant! Who would pay that tax? The automobile manufacturer, who would then pass that expense on to the consumer.... great idea! ?

They shouldn't be allowed to come back at all. Hire people who are responsible.
