On my way through the Texas Panhandle I heard a funny noise coming from the driver’s side wheel well. I thought I had run over something but when I went to check I found my fender liner had deformed and was being eaten by my tire.

Is this abnormal or is this why there are metal fender liners - because it is indeed normal?

Oh, and I found out I have an engine heater plug in my 392. I definitely didn’t expect that.

It happened to my ‘22 JLUXR on the passenger side. I just cut a little of it out haven’t had an issue since. Happened when it was really windy on the interstate.

It's a normal abnormality... ?‍♂

The same thing happened to me out by the Bonneville Salt Flats. Triple digit temps can soften the liner enough to allow a strong wind to invert the liner. Since I'm certainly going to be out in heat like that again, I replaced the plastic liner, punched a couple small holes in it and added a few strategically placed zip ties to prevent it from inverting again.

It’s not normal but it is typical, of that makes sense. A little trimming and it won’t happen again.

Maybe a little different since I have a diesel but mine melted and rubbed against my tire on a trip home to KS from CO towing a 3000 lb travel trailer. I took it to the dealer because I was a bit worried and he told me that was an issue with the 392 and diesel because of the heat off the engine, replaced under warranty.

Thanks y’all for chiming in! I had a feeling that maybe it was normal, but wanted to see what the community opinion was.

I’ve seen members on the 392 forum posted the plastic inner fender liner deformed due to engine heat. Mine has been fine so far.

Yep, had a similar thing happen crossing NV and UT with crosswinds on my JLUR Diesel. I just trimmed it away eventually and now have Falcon 3.3s so I only had to trim a little more for those. Undecided on whether I fully replace the liners or not.

You've already got your answer but - I'm on the third left front liner. The original liner got chewed up in Kansas during 100+ degree Temps and 30 mph cross winds from the right. The replacement also got chewed up in Texas under similar conditions. So, in my case, I'd say that it's normal.
