Hey guys,

I'm over on the sister forum having a JT and I love my Gladiator but I think I'm wanting something smaller. I originally went in to test drive a 4xe several months ago but they didn't have any soft tops on them. The only soft top on the dealer lot was a 2 door so I wanted to take it for a ride to see acoustics. Turns out I love the little 2-door's pep with the 2.0L turbo and the turning radius is INSANE (I kept oversteering).

With all that said I'm currently looking at building a 2-door JL and I've gotten in touch with Daniel at Gupton. I've seen nothing but rave reviews on them and if the price I see is accurate I can see why. I asked my local dealer that services my truck if they could get anywhere near it. At first he questioned if I had the right quote because of how low the price was. He said he couldn't match the price with a 10-foot pole.

The real crux of my dilemma is this: I've never purchased a vehicle before, only leased. What should I be looking out for and what are some pitfalls to avoid for financing a vehicle? I would not pay state taxes in TN but would instead pay them in IN when I got back home and titled it and whatnot. Also, if I got an extended warranty with Gupton, would that makes sense? Is it a national warranty through Jeep/Mopar/national 3rd party? Or would I want to do that with my dealer? Other than lowering payments, is there a reason why I would want to put down X amount of money? My JT would go to my brother so it's not really going to be a trade or anything.

I'm hoping to order this before June so I can get Gobi. If my JT wasn't a Gator it would have been Gobi as I love both of those colors. My favorite color would be Gecko or a nice bright green but I don't think those are rolling back around anytime soon, especially since Gecko just rolled through. Anyone have any ideas on other special colors coming up this year?

If you have any other advice or anything to share let me know please, I'm all ears. I'm aware once I order I'll have about 1.5-2mo to get more money for a down payment if I want. I've been thinking about this for a while and obviously won't go into this blindly. Is there anything I'm missing from my post that I may not have thought about with buying it (and across state lines?)

Congrats. You will love the 2dr. I believe taxes are figure on your address. I have purchased a car in another state and everything was figured on my residence.
Be aware the dealer will try and nickle and dime you on every add on (rust protection, paint protection, interior protection, extended warranty, etc...) all of which will be grossly over priced and questionable as to whether they will actually provide the service. If you want the extended warranty, you can a wait and find better deals.
Good luck.

Bought my JLU from Gupton last summer and I can happily confirm that Daniel or his team will NOT do this. Easiest, smoothest purchase of anything in my life. The price he originally quoted was what I paid, to the penny. The finance guy spent 2 min offering MOPAR extended warranties. I said "thanks, but nope" and he said "cool, I just have to be able to say I offered them" and that was that.

If you want to have your local taxes rolled into your financing, they'll do it, but you need to ask. I did this and when I got all my registration stuff, it included a check for the amount. Deposited the check, then went downtown and paid the taxes. Easy peasy.

Can't recommend Gupton highly enough.

Yeah, you can check chryslerwarrantydirect.com or there's another one I can't remember the name, and if you pay in full the second will give you an additional discount. They both sell manufacturer warranties good at any dealer. You can always take that quote to Daniel and see what he'll do.

ETA: The other one is chryslerfactoryplans.com

I’d call or email Tom Winkels about a MOPAR warranty. His prices are hard to beat. He’ll answer any questions you have.

Awesome, I'll see if that's something that Danie can do for me. I know my local dealer was talking about some others doing shady practices and adding on other fees but I told him with all the people on the Jeep forums dragging other dealers through he mud doing the same things, I couldn't imagine Gupton doing that and getting such high praise still.

@JeepFiend & @Ron93YJ Thank you for the advice on warranties. I will be looking into these. I know I'd like the extended warranty as Jeep's warranty length is garbage like most American manufacturers.

With the exception of the Korean brands and Mitsubishi, the Big 3 warranties are in line with the warranties of Honda, Toyota, Nissan.

My car (that I gave to my parents) is a Kia, it's been trouble free except a TSB and 1 part of the nav under warranty for the better part of almost 9 years. It's in great condition still mechanically and electrically. No groans or squeaks when going over bumps still or anything :) Their warranty played heavily into my decision of buying the car at the time honestly. If others had that kind of warranty I would've broadened my search a bit.

Looks like the quote feature is broken. have to manually add the top quote bracket.

I purchased my jeep from Dan Cummins in Georgetown Kentucky. I live in Indiana. When I bought the jeep in Kentucky, they filed all the registration papers for Indiana and I paid Indiana sales tax. The previous post was correct, you pay taxes by your address.
Concerning the extended warranty, I checked around, even with Tom Winkles. The finance manager at Dan Cummins in Georgetown Kentucky gave me the best price. It was about $900 less than what Tom winkles quoted me.

So, maybe a dumb question, but:

If rates are relatively the same, would it not be worthwhile to get the longest loan possible with a lower rate, and pay it off early if/when possible?

Quoted price right now w/o taxes is just under $48k, which I think is a hell of a deal (I'll be taking the GG off I think). So I'm thinking with $0 down my payments will be in the $750-$800+ range with a 72mo loan. Does that sound about right?
