Another friend bought a '55 CJ-5, and a few of us gathered once a week in his garage for various car/truck projects/beer drinking... Anyway, we did a ground up restoration on the 5. It's power was a fresh 4.3 Chevy V6 built with nice goodies. Now that Jeep was fun when done! Great engine... as you know 90°, essentially a short small block... fun!
+1 on Chevy 4.3 V-6

I had one in my 1995 Chevy S-10, I'd still have that truck if I didn't total it in college. :-(

I had one too once. In an '85 GMC Sierra Classic short bed 4x4. It was slightly anemic in that truck... well, it didn't help that I lifted it, put on 33" tires (big at the time), with 3.73 gears. Young & dumb! 🤣

Fuel-injection helped a lot. :)

pssst- I “forgot” to mention the 280 lb ft 62 Chevy 6 had a whopping 165 HP, and that was gross not net. But when making fun of Jeep’s V6 it “accidentally” slipped my mind. :giggle:
Edit- correction, I did mention it was gross at the bitter end.

Unfortunately the '85 I had was equipped with a Q-Jet... and one with the early computer controlled idle control solenoid. Junk! 😆
If that’s the same one my friend’s Firebird had on it they were damned expensive too, ~ $5 to 700 to replace IIRC.

Don't ever believe anyone that tells you an inline 6 gasser cant make power 😉.
That's an old Ford 300 inline-6 Industrial motor with forged internals, spicy cam, improved pistons, and a ported head with a turbo.

Yep- the 292 Chevy and over 300 cu in GMC were also hot rodded. A friend built the big GMC and had it in a 55 Chevy, tilt front end and all. Even saw a couple with GMC Blowers mounted sideways. His 55 surprised many who laughed at a 6 cyl hot rod.

I've owned more GM than I care to admit, the biggest handfuls were Camaros. Let's see... GM engines... 2.2, 2.8 (inline-4 diesel), 2.8 (V6), 3.1, 3.4, 3.6, 3.7 (Inline-5), 3.8, 4.3, 5.0/LB9, 5.3/L82, 5.3/L84, 5.7/LT1, 5.7/LS1, 6.2/LS3, 6.2/LT1, 6.6/LLY-LBZ.

My bread-and-butter is modern GM. Jeeps have been a fun diversion for 15+ years, usually a non-primary vehicle. Never got into other Mopar stuff but I do like Wranglers. Kicking myself for trading my last Chevy pickup for this JL, actually.

Buying a JL is a lot like rolling the dice. adding silly options to the jeep increases the amount of numbers on the die and when it comes time to roll if you dont roll a specific number something will go wrong. As someone at 110k who constantly abuses their jeep I think i got pretty lucky. A/c & an alternator are the only things that have decided to go out
