My JLU was in the shop one day just after I purchased and they have me a GC as a loaner. Excluding the engine, it felt a lot like the wife's Mazda SUV which isn't a bad thing but IMHO that just makes it another SUV. I guess I would never have considered the GC since I run with the top down/open most of the time which cannot be done with the GC. But if you're looking for a SUV with some room and HPs then a GC SRT may be a better fit for you.

If you have no plans to wheel, and your Wrangler would just be a Mall Crawler, then get the GC SRT. My wife’s was a blast to drive, and sounded heavenly with the Borla S-Type catback exhaust installed.
And where is the GC SRT now?:CWL:

Go wrangler. You can always swap vehicles and drive the other every now and then. You may only be able to wheel sparingly being in DC but you can pull the top and doors off anytime - and you can't do that in a GC.
Go manual in the wrangler for a little extra fun

Ha! In DC traffic!? Hell no.

But seriously, is it about the GC or specifically the SRT package? If is just about the GC and your wife has one don't you sort of already have one? If you get a Wrangler then you guys can and should share, which was brought up earlier.

The SRT GC is awesome but honestly I don't think people's eyes track GCs. It is just another SUV in the ocean of SUVs. Eyes certainly track and follow badass topless and doorless wranglers because everyone who doesn't have one in that one quick moment wishes they we're driving that way.

you could also get the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk with a Hemi. it would not be as fast as the SRT, but would be more than enough for most trails. with the Hemi it is pretty nice. I had a 2017 GC Trailhawk before my Rubicon and loved it. we took it all over CO and even Moab. if I was looking for something that would be more road focused, that would be my choice for sure. if off-road is main focus, no topping the Wrangler.

Thanks for all the comments, this morning after making this post I went out on my mountain bike..came back muddy as hell to load up all my gear in my Passat (current car) and realized, hell Im not gonna want to beat up on a 70k car like this and the wrangler will just fit my outdoor activities better.

I don’t crave speed, but it does look bad ass.

My goal has always been to get the Wrangler pay it off and keep it as a second vehicle, then get something bad ass like an m3.

I’m staying the course, thanks to everyone who said to stay the course and boo to everyone who said get the GC lol

I'm coming from a Trackhawk....already owned an SRT Jeep, and two Hellcats. They are all completely different vehicles with different purposes. My Rubicon should be here this week.

With that being said, if you're not going to race it, then don't bother with TH or SRT. You can't drive them they way they are intended on public roads. It's the main reason I am getting rod of the Trackhawk. I can not race it as much as I would like to because of my growing family, and I drive mainly in traffic to and from work. It's fun every now and then, but not enough to justify the cost of both the car and fuel.

If you want the inside/outside experience, then it's Rubicon all day. None of those other cars will get you even close to that. Comfort wise, the Trackhawk and SRT are real nice, but they still do feel very comparable to the normal Grand Cherokee on the inside, with only a few upgrades here and there. The new JL Rubicons have been nicely improved over the previous generation.

Overall, it really just depends what you will be using the car for, and which one you wish you had gotten LOL. Maybe you get one, and the wife get the other. Then you can share:)

Can you take the top and doors off a GC? LOL Seriously, it's your choice and your'e asking on a JL forum.... My $.02. The JL is an all year have fun vehicle. (Top and doors off in the summer/ a get you anywhere ride for the winter). It's like the legos of cars. You can do anything to make it fit your needs. You want it to go fast?, put a Hellcat engine in it! My JLUR will be the last vehicle I own. I may not ever do any hardcore rock crawling, but if there was a day I find myself on one, I could in my JLUR. I'm 50 and my days of going 100+mph are way past me. Choose what makes you happy. . G

Ain't that the truth brother. And, after a lift, and bigger tires you could bring the Wrangler mpg's down to the SRT level. Wow, I'm sure that useless thought helped you.....not. Hang in there, you'll have the right decision pop in your mind when you least expect it.
I doubt it. With 3.5" lift and 37" Nitto Trail Grapplers I'm still getting about 15.5MPG in my manual Rubicon.

I have both a JLUR and an SRT GC. As has been said already these are both very different vehicles. I love them both for different reasons. To be honest, I reach for the JLUR fob more often. It’s definitely more practical for daily living.

However, the rumble, unrefined power and exhilaration of driving the SRT is addicting. Someone mentioned that the SRT just blends in. That’s actually a good thing and one of the main reasons I got it. It’s a sleeper with huge balls. It’s somewhat common looks also helps keep you out of trouble on the roads.

I’m waiting to see what they do with the next gen SRT before deciding whether I’ll stick with it or try something else. But now that Ive owned a performance vehicle I don’t think I could not have one. Wrangler has its place and purpose and so does the SRT.

I was saying that about my jk. Now here I am looking to trade it for a JL. Guess the Porsche can wait lol.
