Theft Deterrent. Discuss

What is you opinion on a Wrangler with a visible steering wheel lock?

  • Good idea. Anything to slow down a thief, or make him move on to the next vehicle.

  • The thief or a random passerby is going to see it as a challenge, and target that Jeep specifically!

  • Waste of money. If the 'right' thief wants it, it's going to be stolen no matter what you do to it.

  • Why do you keep calling them thieves? No one says that.

A 6-Speed Manual will deter 90% (estimate - no proof) of the thieves!
Despite the recall, the people/posts in this forum are making me want to learn to drive a manual! (So I can buy one and drive it and have a lower chance of it being stolen. Not so I can go out stealing other people's vehicles! :CWL:)

Cops aren't doing anything to solve the problem and people are getting fed up with it. Same with cat converters.
Before I started Just Emptying Every Pocket, my financial priority was securing a safe neighborhood for my family. That way I avoid making life/death decisions over an insured object.

Just because they're insured does not mean there isn't a cost.

Lol. When the piece of shit thieves have the same hardware for replicating keys as the dealer, they absolutely do not need the key that came with the Jeep. Its as simple as getting the VIN from A pillar, pulling horn and head unit fuse, punching passenger lock, connection to Star rail behind glovebox with dealer computer and create a key.
They're getting them in less than 5 minutes.
Sounds like lots of work. A rollback and a minute. Do do your deed in a warehouse.

Not complete until this video is consulted.....even experts are dumbfounded
Thing is, that old Lambo probably was a PIA to start. Thhose old italian cars took a bit of love to get them to start when cold. If you want the best theft prevention, get an old air cooled 911 that has Mechanical fuel injection on it. There's a 100% chance you'll never get it started unless you know the trick. With old school German cars (like Italian) they never mark anything and just assume you read the owners manual. Then if you actually got it running (assuming the batteries could hold up on the minute or two of cranking) you'll never figure out how to turn on the heat. Better bring a parka.

I suppose in a big enough gated community it might be possible.
The private security patrols help as well. :)

All kidding aside, if the owner in San Antonio had just let the police do their job, he would have an unblemished vehicle with an extra 10 miles on it. Instead he needs to clean his truck ("how'd I get stuck on brain detail?") and then face the near impossible task of selling it down the road. But...I guess he's still better off than he left the perp.

So I haven't taken the time to read this entire thread -

But I will tell you how they steal Dodge Challenger/Charger Hell Cats etc from experience of nearly having mine stolen. Jeeps use the same tech..

  1. Pull the neutral safety strap push it in the open and tow it off
  2. Use a Locksmith tablet to plug in and clone a key
  3. Use a scanner to scan for your FOB signal tricking your jeep in to thinking they have a key - drive off
  4. Steering Wheel Locks are easily defeated
  5. The true thief even knows how to drive a manual
So 2 things I did on My Challenger -

  1. Kill switch
  2. Had dealer lock out the RF hub so a key can not be cloned - Dodge has a TSB for this fir these Scat Packs and HellCats - so may not be an option on Jeeps

Also they pulled my relay for the horn to silence the factory alarm which also had glass breakage and motion sensors.

Recommend:

Compustar T13 Pro base security system with Drone Mobile.

IGLA security system

Ravelco Kill Switch
