Good post… just happened to me, my dad dropped the hex screw and we couldn’t find it for an hour, so we went to 5 different places looking for a replacement including a dealership. Had the same experiences but found a random screw that I managed to fit in there and it’s my final solution.
Just a couple of weeks ago another member contacted me after finding himself in the same predicament. I still had some extras from the guy I got them from on ebay so I mailed him a couple. I feel special now ?

Toyota does. I love my Jeep, but this is parts department basics.
Like hell they do. You might get lucky on a few but no manufacturer has perfect parts diagrams.

I can only go by my experiences, I restored a first gen junkyard 4runner from the ground up using nothing but factory parts. Toyota never failed to find a part # for the hundreds of items I needed, including nuts, bolts, and washers. They didn't always have it in stock, or could even get it as some items were discontinued, but they never failed to get me a PN which made the search easier. Maybe older vehicles had better parts lists, I dont know, but as has been pointed out earlier Jeep builds these things and Jeep dealers should have access to a full illustrated parts breakdown, if they dont its just incompetence and laziness in my opinion, and Id say the same about any other manufacturer who can't fully support the products they sell. I work for a defense contractor and if we can have near perfect parts breakdowns for an airframe we only sold a handful of, there's absolutely no reason auto manufacturers who sell tens or hundreds of thousands of a vehicle can't have the same or better. So I'll take your word for it since you are in the biz, but my experience, with Toyota at least, has been the opposite.

Absolutely the older models were much better for parts identification. Nowadays so many parts are sold only as assemblies, repairs are getting crazy expensive.

To me there's no excuse to not have those screws identified and available. Surely that's not the only one on the entire Jeep. If you sell it you should have the parts needed to fix it or at least an idea that it is even there in the first place. If that's the only place on the whole Jeep where that size screw is used then they should change it for economies of scale. Even if you don't stock it at least be able to tell me the length, size, and pitch so I can get another one. You're selling a $40-73,000 Jeep like hotcakes. Figure this crap out for f's sake.

The people that make the parts are not the same as the company that makes the Jeep.

That doesn't matter. If I supply a product to a client and use subcontractors to do bits of the work, you bet your ass I'd better have access to the parts they used to produce "my work" that I submitted to my client. We didn't make that doesn't cut it.

This is my opinion and the way I would want to be treated so it's the way I treat my customers.

You can have that opinion all you like, but that raises operating costs and therefore purchase prices.

They can bill me the 1/10 of a penny it would cost to identify that part if they did it on the front end when they designed the Jeep. That still terrible customer service.

Should you be able to buy every single little piece of your car separately? You don’t work in the industry, or in any engineering field do you? That’s an unreasonable standard.

They should be able to tell me what part it is and/or know that the part is there. They didn't even know that screw existed. There aren't too many pieces of a Jeep that you can't buy, unless you're looking for a non existent T30 screw.

You can tear the axles apart, rebuild engines (except maybe the 4xe electric motor), replace fenders, suspension, tops, cowling, brakes, exhaust, stereo, air intake, etc. So yeah, they should know the dimension of that screw so I can replace it.

The difference in all of those parts is that you can’t go to a hardware store and just grab one out of the bin that will work just fine. Also, those are all large assemblies of other parts.
