After Saturday's success plastidip spraying my JLUR grill, I was determined on Sunday to take the door hinges off and spray them as well. Was not successful. One of the torx bolts nearly stripped out and is now gnarled up pretty bad. I was able to hammer the torx bit into it and get a strong grab, so strong that I actually snapped the square head off a socket wrench.

Couple of questions:
1. Should I be unable to live with the bolt being an eye-sore, what would be the best method to get this bolt to unlock and be removed?
2. Is there a better alternative to the torx bolts used for the door hinges? If so, where can these be purchased?

Thanks in advance for any helpful advice.

Maybe try a screw extractor/easy out.
Did you get the rest of the bolts out?

Replace with new torx bolt just not so tight or can use an allen button head screw.

You are not the first to post such problems. These bolts seem to be near impossible to remove. Maybe need an impact wrench for the job although the bolt is probably too soft and will strip. Factory either torqued the heck out of these or too much locktite.

Another poster mention the wavy door syndrome might be caused by the hinges being too tight or just need readjustment.

I have yet to find a set of replacement bolts but once I do I’m going to get a micro torch and direct the flame directly in the center of the bolt in effort to free up the factory lock tite and then try to free the bolt.

Common problem on older jeeps. Torx heads will look like poo as soon as you start removing them.
