The 2.0L turbo is perfectly happy on 87 octane regular gas. Jeep even clarified that regular is perfectly fine for the 2.0L.
My friend who is the service manager also clarified the 2.0 Turbo is good with the 87 octane. Since I live in Texas and the heat is hot he did suggest I use 93 octane just during the hottest summer months or if towing something. I did use a few months of 93 but now been back to 87.

Technology package is a must. Off-road pages and Uconnect are excellent. Upgraded sound system is worth the money alone.

The 5” is garbage. The 7” is better but it’s buggy too. The 8.4” is the only truly good uConnect.
However, if you get the 5”, you can always upgrade to the Insane Audio or Alpine head units (which ain’t cheap)
I have the 7 inch. It’s not buggy at all. I am very satisfied with it.

the OP said he was trying to save money. Why would you even mention the Alpine which is 3 times the cost of the tech package?

When i got mine, i knew i wanted the 7 inch screen. My grand Cherokee has the 5 inch which is nice but i love my 7 inch screen. I also wanted power windows and locks. 1000 bucks in the long run will pay off.

Jeep Wrangler JL Technology package worth $1000? 29E15DC4-9F4B-469A-8E36-B2ACDAD200B4

i've looked at the 7 and 8 inch setup and it was ok, but not for me. i wanted to go the cheapest way without all the options. so i went with the base model and the 5 inch system. however, i did get the xm radio option. that was worth the $295 and still save a boat load of money.

I love Google Maps and Waze, so it’s a no brainer for me...
8.4 Nav is useless, I use Waze, the only options I use is AM/FM/USB for mp3

Bare minimum I'd say is get the Alpine, because upgrading the basic speakers can become quite costly.

Absolutely agree. Mine has the Alpine and tech. And let me put it this way... I bought my wife a Gladiator last night as a gift. I made absolutely certain it had the tech, and the upgraded Alpine system. She was very very happy and for me, that was worth it.

Don't penny pinch on the Jeep.Whether to go Rubi, Sport, etc. is different but make the cabin enjoyable. I personally look forward to driving mine.

Currently looking at building a 2020 Sport S (need auto locks for kids) and trying to find ways to keep my price down. I don't need heated seats and questioning if I really need to add the technology package for $1000. I know it comes with V4 Turbo but I really want the V6 because its been around a lot longer and doesn't use premium gas, which evens out the loss in gas mileage in my opinion.

Anyways I think the 5" screen would be enough if I didn't get the technology package. The thing I would miss most is that I couldn't plug my phone in to listen to podcasts.

Any suggestions on this?

The four-cylinder turbo does not require premium gas. I have two of them…

HOW???? How do you not need heated seats in Michigan?!?
Lol cold weather doesn't really bother me. My other vehicle has heated seats and I used it for maybe a week total last year when it was negative 20 degrees.

And LED Headlights, and Trailer-Tow & HD Electrical.
Both of those are a good value.
What is the appeal of LED headlights? Aren't they just brighter?

For hitch I was just going to buy aftermarket for a few hundred and run wire underneath myself instead of through the body like Mopar suggests.

I'm the same way. I understand why people like to have all the bells and whistles but I prefer simple and don't want to spend more on a feature I don't really need. Might have something to do with the fact I've always driven older cars and usually do my own repairs.

GET AT LEAST THE 7" RADIO!!! THE 5" SUCKS!!
Lol the biggest problem with the 5” screen is that it’s using some sort of low resolution TFT screen (from like 20 years ago) vs IPS LCD on the 7” and 8.4”.
TFTs have terrible viewing angle, glares and color reproduction.

i'm in the same boat with you. simplicity is the way to go, if you are planning to keep a vehicle for a long time. also it save money in the long run without things crapping out. my last jeep (07 grand cherokee) have served me well, until the motor took a dump at 91k miles. however things were starting to crap out like the pass. window motor, (driver was replace at $320) hvac control and heat/ac blower acting up, power lock acting up, and a few other things. so power options, etc to me is not worth it. and i dont miss it. i'm at the point just to find an older jeep or truck without the electronic crap and live a simple life and fix it in the driveway vs luxury and pay someone to plug a computer and tell me whats wrong.
