I'll be surprised if AEV comes out with one at all. Now that Mopar/FCA has seen this as a revenue stream for them (changing settings for mods) I doubt AEV will want to jeopardize their close relationship with Jeep for the small amount they will make off developing a programmer.

You aren't going to see any type of uconnect mods like that. It would require some kind of editor which would be difficult to handle through the OBD port.

@Spank

However, it's only a matter of time before AEV, Superchips, and everyone else comes out with a unit that'll do all the same things this one does for under $200 and without the need to bypass things or leave hardware connected.
I think you may be very wrong in regard to the "without the need to bypass things or leave hardware connected" that you mentioned..

I have talked to a few developers/vendors, that plan to provide Jl programmers and another one that is trying to do a module to turn off ESS. ALL of them say, that they can't lets say, get past the OBDII port like they used to with older Wranglers.

I for one, have been a ProCal fan but have opted to go with the Tazer Jl this time.

Tazer Jl, will be offering far more features then the others and no dip switches. Tazer JL will have the much wanted "Live Features", also and that is a key point!

I have been told by AEV and Superchips support, that the Nav feature that the Tazer JL has and the turn off ESS that the Tazer JL offers with their "Live Feature ", will NOT be a part of the ProCal or SuperChip offerings. Time will tell though...These tidbits of info alone pushed me straight to the Tazer JL.

I might add that AEV, said their offering will not be coming very soon....

Yes, the price of the Tazer Jl will undoubtedly come down in the future. That's a good thing, but this did not keep me from ordering the Tazer JL.

The secure gateway module prevents using the OBD port. With the Tazer, you unplug the Secure Gateway and bypass it, eliminating the firewall.

Huh? Why would such a product jeopardize anything? AEV coming out with a programmer that alters the default configuration of the vehicle is no different than AEV coming out with a suspension system that alters the default configuration of the vehicle.

The device doesn't need to handle any editing. It simply needs to be the conduit in which customizations are delivered to the UConnect system. Hell, I may be overthinking it and someone'll figure it out via USB. People customized the software in the RHR, RER, RHB, and even RES units by tweaking the code in update files. There are tons of creative ways to further customize the display hardware on the Wrangler. Hell, someone used a Raspberry Pi to take control of the EVIC display on the JK. Unfortunately, it came late in the game, but it was a simple matter of piping data to the CANBUS via the diagnostic port.

Yes, the JL is different, but if the aftermarket wants it bad enough, it always finds a way.

While the Tazer looks like a great product with a ton of potential, most people use aftermarket programmers to adjust three things: tire size, TPMS, and gear ratio. Being able to disable the ESS would certainly be a nice feature, but for most people who have installed a lift, added larger tires, and/or have regeared or replaced their axles entirely, a unit that can simply handle those things effortlessly will be what most people are looking for.

Spank, I agree with you pretty much.. but the JL is unlike the older model Wrangler's. There are many, lets call them creature comfort features that owner's will want to turn on and other things they will want to turn off, etc.

I listed my want list in an earlier post.

Yes, you are right from your aspect but you have a whole other group of owner's that will gladly pay for what the Razer JL offers and the others like ProCal do not offer.

So, Spank lets talk about this in 6 months. I think most JL Wrangler owner's are not at all like you.

AEV pro cal was a popular programmer for the very reason it was simple and only handled key features, at half the price of a tazer. Aftermarket programmers will be coming - it may be a little harder to engine tune on the JL but they all will initially have the same features as the tazer (minus the light show which most don’t care about anyways) most at half the cost.

Got mine Friday and had to update the firmware to get it working. Played with it this weekend on a road trip. Some changes take the engine cycling a few times to start working. Once I got the correct firmware on it everything worked great! I was able to get tire size exactly to what I needed. my Toyo 38s are actually 37.7 and speedo is right on with my GPS. Changed my gears to 4.88 and TPMS to 26. no more pesky warnings.

Simple, before FCA didn't have a financial conduit in place to make money off tire size, gear ration and TPMS changes. Now they do. When a dealer uses the WYOTECH app, to change your tire size on your JL, they are connected to the FCA server and billed $115 for that "transaction". Before you could get a friendly jeep tech to make the change for you, it didn't actually cost the dealer anything. Now it does. Dealer installs a lift and larger tires on a Jeep to sell, FCA gets $100+ when they update the system. They went through the trouble to put that system in place so they are expecting it to be a revenue conduit.

The JK didn't have the Secure Gateway. This is the last generation where we'll be able to do any sort of mods via OBD. The 2020 will require all changes to be authenticated via Secure Gateway.

Tire size programming with any programmer...

It is really wise when you use a programmer to program tire size, that after you program, you use a smart phone GPS app to verify that your speedometer is accurate.

You must check with the GPS app when you are driving at a steady pace of say 20 mph, 40 mph, 60 mph, 70 mph and 80 mph. Don't just check/verify accuracy at only one MPH speed.

Often, you may be real close at say 40 and not close at 60 or 70. SO, do check to be sure that what you have selected with the programmer, in regard to tire size, is setting things up so the speedometer is displaying say within 1 mph or so at all speeds.

Keep fooling with selected tire sizes in regard to the programmer, until you get the correct speed displaying on the speedometer, regardless of how fast or slow you are going.

Also, it is important to recheck speedometer accuracy with your MPH app, every couple of months or so, because as your tire wears, diameter of the tire gets smaller and this will affect speedometer MPH accuracy.

There are many GPS app's that will help you verify the accuracy of your speedometer. The android app I use, is called "GPS TEST PLUS Navigation."

Future breaker of JL Wrangler parts!
I think it would be cool if you could put a pic of your own jeep as wallpaper on the uconnect.

Well, mentioned in the Tazer JL User Guide is the option:

Set DVD_CD
This setting adds the CD input on the RA3/RA4 radio, for use as an aux input,
particularly useful if adding a media player or DVD player.

My guess is that what you ask may be doable in the future in regard to the RA3/RA4 radio. Of course, there would have to be the necessary A/V cable.

I think you are asking forum members something that most forum members are clueless in regard to.

I'd like to attach an off-road camera to my grill and have it display on the uconnect.
