I've had a Tazer in my 4xe for a few weeks now, but am annoyed by the fact that I have to unmarry it every time I take it in for service, then remarry it, THEN also reprogram all of my custom vehicle settings again like Tow Wiring, Tire Size, Aux Switches, etc.

So the solution I've come up with is to use JScan with an OBDLink MX+ to program those settings permanently into the vehicle, and then only use the Tazer just for its various "live" functions.

Before I start doing this, I want to make sure I'm doing it the right way, and not screwing anything up. Could someone who has done this (or who at least has more knowledge than myself) let me know if this process sounds right?

  1. Unmarry Tazer, but leave it plugged in (to serve as the SGW bypass for Jscan)
  2. Plug in OBDLink, connect JScan on my phone to it
  3. Program the permanent vehicle settings I want with JScan
  4. Marry Tazer
Theoretically, when the Tazer is married in step 4, it will treat the new vehicle settings programmed by JScan as being "factory" settings, and will leave them intact next time I unmarry and remarry it. Does that seem accurate?

I don't have a Tazer, but from what I've read about it - your plan sounds good.

That sounds a lot like what I've got. My rig came from AEV with the fundamental settings burnt-in with their ProCal. Those settings stick through the Tazer marry/unmarry cycles.

For what it's worth, this is exactly my setup, and has been working great. I only use the Tazer for live functionality, and all my vehicle preferences are done with JScan.

Yes, unmarrying prior to making changes with JScan is prudent.

and leave it installed. It has no impact on the dealership updating or accessing your Jeep. No warranty issues and works great.

Use your JScan or AlfaOBD as needed.
Yes, an adjunct that in essence does the ESS button push is a welcome addition to the JL/JT.

I'm not trying to be confrontational at all ....... but, I myself would never recommend the Autostop Eliminator offering for a JL/JT. It's known to intermittently hiccup.

I do often recommend the @SmartStopStart.com unit. a terrific offering, that can be had for $100. It is an offering of a forum sponsor, fellow JL owner and forum member.

The SmartStopStart unit unlike the knockoff offering you mention, it never ever hiccups.

The SmartStopStart unit also has a smaller footprint.

By the way... I disagree with your blanket "No warranty issues" comment. Such devices are best uninstalled before a dealership visit.

I disagree - I've had three of the other units and they worked flawlessly. That said, whatever works, works. Not really stuck on a brand, just one that was referred to me and I have no vested interest or get a kickback, etc.

Regarding the warranty issue, it's not even detectable; even if it were, it's simply a device that remembers the preference. Unless the device itself were to short out and cause an issue (insert anything from Tazer to these devices) it would obviously be best to remove it but I cannot recall one single instant of that being reported. There are no warranty issues with stop/start devices. Seriously, there's no need to remove them.

I had that in my wk2 and it worked great. The vehicle in question though is a 4xe, so stop/start is rather essential ? It's the other live features I'm more interested in keeping, like the extra swaybar disconnect controls, hood alaarm, brake light flash, etc

Another question, those 2024 2 door jeeps that show on the Jeep website as being built or in transit, are those dealer stock, special orders or a combination of both?

I ask because we had ordered a 2023 Hybrid Ford Maverick back in Sep 2022 (still has not been built) and when you check the Ford website for available units, most of what showed up were special orders for individuals. In the case of Ford, it said Special Order on the window sticker. When I look at the window sticker for some of the in-transit 2024 Jeeps, it has no indication if it's a special order or dealer stock.

Is there a way to tell with the Jeeps?

I purchased the auto stop eliminator, not because I wanted to, but because smartstopstart will not ship to California.

From their website:
Why can't these modules be sold or used in California?
The California Air Resources board requires automotive aftermarket products to go through an approval process. At this time, this product has not been submitted for approval.

So I purchased the Tazer SGW connection cables and created my own modified cable using half of the Tazer extension cable and the autostopstart eliminator cable. I did this to avoid having another length of cable under the dash.

I’m using Jscan with the ECRI security gateway bypass with the ECRI mount from Click on PC (Etsy), and the Vgate vLinker MC+ OBD2 scan tool. Not ideal but I leave the extension cables plugged in since the autostopstart is my priority. I use the ECRI bypass only when I need to use JSCAN.

So far no “hiccups“ as @Rhinebeck01 would say. Time will tell.
