I am trying to wire 12 to an AAL tail gate table LED light. It has its own on/off switch, so assumed it was as simple as find 12v that is always on and splice in, I found a hot wire inside the tailgate. (White/green) I already ran a ground strap to the tailgate for my ham radio so I have a good ground. I verified I have 11.7-13.7 volts at the plug going into the AAL LED strip. I turn it on and it flashes and goes out. So I figured the light was bad and wired it up to the cigarette lighter and it works fine. I added a 6 amp diode in between the source and the LED strip. Same issue any help fellow JL Forum gurus?

here is where I taped incase this was a bad idea. I am trying to avoid pulling the side covers off as I have several wires under there already and it’s a long way to the tailgate.

Can anyone on here confirm that the violet/orange splice successfully powered their AAL Versatable LED?
i wired it back to the cigarette lighter before I saw the reply. If you have a volt meter you can check it before you splice in. Another option is the done light, but seemed like a long way to me.

From the wiring diagram here - https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/JL-Wiring-Diagrams/SWINGGATE---LOCK-SYSTEM.pdf - it looks like the green/white is going to the lock solenoid, so it only has momentary power. Test Pin 4 (violet/orange) - it seems like it should have 12v all the time, and the other side of that circuit goes to a ground.
Finally got around to testing it...no juice. That said, I found an equally simple solution. The scissor jack has a plug under it that exits right next to the wiring harness for the tow sockets. There is an always-on wire in there and it looks like I can tack the small gauge table led wire to the socket end without having to cut anything. I don’t tow that often but I’m even more glad I got that package now!

I wired mine to the 12v cig outlet in the back too. Only annoying thing about it was removing the plastic trim to get to the wires. I've removed that trim several times and now it doesn't fully connect anymore loll

Yea that’s why I didn’t want to use the outlet...I’ve removed well over half of the trim pieces in my rig for various mods and the tabs eventually break in all of them.

I am In the same boat. Now I have so much wiring and compressor lines, it will never go perfect again. At least I can’t hear it rattle.
