I wasn't crazy about the options I could find on the market and I REALLY wasn't happy with the amount of light Jeep decided to cast into the cargo area. With kids there's a constant need to dig stuff out for them from the back and it's not fun trying to use your cellphone for a flashlight.
I opted for two stardust rocklights, they are a bit pricey but actually well built and bright, without being as stupid expensive as some "name brand" rocklights that are the same Chinese junk with a brand printed on them.
I tapped into the power and ground feeding my rear 12v outlet and mounted the on on/off switch in the trim. I wired the switch so the led ring was illuminated when the lights are turned off. It does introduce a small draw to the electrical system when the key is off, but there's no point fumbling for a switch in the dark, and having the ring light up when on its pointless too because the light kinda makes it obvious the switch is on.
I used a two-prong quick disconnect going into the hardtop. It was a bit of a pain forcing the extra wiring into the same track that carries the power to the rear wiper motor, but I managed to get it done. Overall I'm super happy, tons of light in the cargo area and tons of light onto my tailgate table and rearwards.
