Hey everyone. I’m going from 33s to 35s and I’m guessing I’ll need some type of reinforcement for the spare tire. Hoping y’all can give me some suggestions on the ones you like. Thanks!

You don’t really need any reinforcement going to 35’s. Even 37’s is arguable. The JL tailgates are much thicker than JK’s. You’ll be fine.

I think I read here on the forums that Mopar says the tailgate is good for
85 lbs, which means it can support a little more I bet.

I think the 85lbs was for the tailgate table, not the spare tire itself. Watch the video linked above (at 1:20).

The issue is not the tailgate itself, it is the fact the hinges that do not go far enough across the tailgate so there is not enough support and over time it will sag and rattle.

Even the Mopar kit is marginal at best. There are plenty of threads on the forum that discuss this. If you think you will ever go past 35's, then buy once and cry once and go CavFab. I have been very happy with mine--no rattles, sags, or issues.

Second the CavFab, what a beast. Heavy but closes like a bank vault. Just did washboard road test, 100% pass. Dead quiet

I used the Tereflex tire mount but not the tailgate reinforcement
I changed out 2 crappy oem tire mounts on JK's and since the JL is about the same mount....
If you do think you need the reinforcement for the tailgate itself too, then the one 2 responses above is awesome for sure

I went with the Teraflex because my wheel and tire combo is very heavy and I knew I would be adding a tailgate table at some point. Additionally, I plan on adding a spare tire mounted cargo system from AAL for fuel, traction boards, etc. I knew that much weight needed a heavy duty setup and the Teraflex is BEEF. Tailgate closes rock solid compared to the same tire/wheel setup with the MOPAR reinforcement.

I like the UCF version.....tucks up close to the tailgate. I run a modified version for my 8x6.5-40" tire/wheel combo. ............... I also, have the 1/4" 6061-T651 aluminum inner /outer tailgate door and steel hinge reinforcement brackets installed.

photo is stock version.

Cavfab, get it, set it, forget it. No shims to adjust and more stout then the Teraflex.

The only downside is you need to get it powder coated but that ended up a good thing for me as I got to know a great powder coat company that I have used a few times since.

Living in MN I'd be worried about the entire inside getting coated. At least the Teraflex won't rust.

You really don't, depending on the weight of the 35's you're going with. Plenty of folks don't add reinforcement until you get to 37s. If you want to though, Mopars is pretty good. Most peoples advice will be anecdotal, they haven't blow a tailgate at a certain weight level, then replaced it, then found no issues. So take everyones opinion with a grain of salt. Even the "I don't hear rattles" is probably more of an opinion and believing their change helped something :) That said, get your 35's and then see if you feel like you want a reinforcement.

I had a 19 jlr and added 315/70/17 Nitto mud terrains and Icon Rebound wheels, not sure the weight, would assume close to 100lbs. Seemed like way too much weight back there, I felt like I was destroying the gate. If you are off roading much, really takes a beating.
