I am working on this issue as well on my ’22 Sahara. Using the new block and the Velcro so far and still rattling. Has anyone had to use some stick on rubber gasket on the vertical side of the tailgate opening? Saw a video on YouTube as a fix. I’m running low on ideas to fix mine.

Question, on the pic above the black piece that slips over the tailgate latch, would this help prevent any of the rattle? I ask because mine does not appear to have that cover.
@ABF4775

No that black plastic that slips over the latch does nothing positive or negative in regard to the clunk/rattle thing.

It took lots of latch adjust and re-adjusts for me to zero in on the issue so to speak.

DO, if you have not... buy better bolts as mentioned earlier in this thread.
The crapola bolts that come with the latch stop bumper will not hold position .... the crappy bolts allow the latch bumper to change position/move..

Copy, I have the new bolts just need to install them. Should the tailgate ride up a bit on the stop block or are you looking to center it more or less?

I climbed in the back of the Jeep and watched the tailgate close and adjusted it accordingly. One other thing is the tailgate may have sagged and may need to be adjusted too.

Just found this thread after stumbling on this product randomly on Amazon. I also have this rattle and am interested to see if this fixes it.

Glad to note on the replacement bolts, too. I have an Ace Hardware pretty close so will likely hit them up vs ordering a 10-pack.

I installed mine last week; thank you for the bolt recommendation. Turns out that it wasn't the latch that was rattling, but yet the rear window seal needed a bit of silicone.

In any case, after installing the latch, does your tailgate close a bit different? It seems like mine needs a bit more of a push and has a more solid thud. Not sure if I need to push the aluminum latch back a bit or if this is just how it is.

Bought my 14.80$ gate block and the rattle since new is gone.

Even with reinforcement and relocation it still rattled. My 35 out back just made it worse. Picked up some real hardware as well.
Just drove off some curbs and gtg.
Also I know it’s backwards in the photo. Was amazed with the color match lol.

I'm curious about the length of the bolts mentioned. The factory bolts on my '23 are 25mm (they do appear to have a taper at the tip though) and the mating surface of the machined aluminum stopper I bought is thicker than the stock steel plate. I'm sure they're sufficient but why use shorter 20mm bolts?

Since I installed the tailgate latch stop bumper, my JL never has any noise issues back there..... ....Traveling on wash board roads, bumps or whatever.... never any noise.

Same issue. Does anyone know what the torque for both of these latches are? Don't want to tighten them too much

Has anyone tried one of these? https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B092CJDT8C

I bought one and installed it to see if it can eliminate the slop between the tailgate and the OEM latch stop (which I have tweaked in many different ways to stop the rattling to no avail). So far so good, though the bolts that come with it are lame. I replaced them with some flange bolts similar to the OEM.
Worked for me!

For those who installed these, did you install with the spare tire off? Wondering if it would be best to install and adjust the closing location with the weight of the spare tire off. Then install spare tire as last step?

Installed in the configuration that I ride in, which is with the spare.
