Thieves broke my unlocked and empty glove box latch handle about two months after receiving my Jeep. I didn't want to pay Mopar price for a replacement and the salvage/eBay parts sucked, so I ran with it gaffe taped closed for the past year or so. The tape finally gave out, likely after thieves 2-4, so I figured I'd try to rig it and noticed the aperture was about the width of a large binder clip. I couldn't find any posts, so ...
It's finicky to open, but it works, is better than gaffe tape, and was free. YMMV

- Buy, find, or "borrow" a large (2") binder clip.
- Remove the sprung steel from the clip.
- Bend the ends of the sprung steel maybe 20ish degrees so they are no longer parallel.
- Jam the m'fer into the latch mechanism making sure the ends sit above the latch ear cogs.
- Wait for new thieves to open the binder clipped Ark of the Covenant and have their faces melted by the trapped souls inside.
- Repeat.
