I'm aware of the locking mechanism. The top isn't all the way down, just open.

There is less headroom, but at 5-10 my head doesn't hit the shade.

I'll update with a picture later today.

Which are? To me it seems like the most convenient choice for opening and closing sure but thats about it.
That's like 90% of it, rain coming who cares?
Open in dead winter, literally 12 months with your top off.
The two corner windows come out, top can be closed and opened up to 60 mph.

Got the dimensions on that badboy? I hope you consider a write up. hahahahahah
I would, but it blew off on the highway while flat towing it home. One can only hope it found a new home with a JL owner, and didn't cause a 10 car pile-up.

Take it off at the end of the season and wash/rinse it. It captures a lot of dust/grime/ etc.
I was noticing this the other day as well. I usually leave it on, since the JLU uses hooks under the windshield. It was a lot easier with the JK as they used the bungee balls everywhere.

For the people stating headroom. How close is your head to the roof? Seems you all have a lot of other issues besides your head hitting the sun shade.

Just imagine being taller than you are, in torso length and inseam, and preferring to maintain good posture while driving.

How does an open sunroof (which is what the SOT is) qualify as "top off"?
Jeep Wrangler JL Sun Shade What a Difference Jeep_Tops-Off-Test-Drive

This is pretty much my definition of top off, who needs more? lol
The two corner windows come out.
With my trim it was only 2k addition, would'nt love my Jeep as much w/o it.

I mean it’s not really top off it’s just a big floppy sunroof. And the 60mph thing is again convenient not really much more.

Taking the corner windows out is hella more difficult than the soft top as well.

Colder in the winter months like the soft top vs hard top.

Can’t actually remove the whole thing like the hard top or soft top.

Never get a full no top experience like the other 2.

No safari mode like the soft top.

Really if anything it only has all the cons of the soft top and hardtop with only the ā€œproā€ of easy opening.

A sunroof has glass, so your term is wrong to begin with.
The corner windows come with a bag and two latchs and they are out, 30 seconds each.
I've driven it dead of Winter zero degrees, open top heat on, heated seats...f yeah.....
12 months top off, the difference of top is maybe an inch on the sides, and the best experience is top open, corners out, windows up.

Soft top? If so they come with a built in one of those called Safari Mode.
This.

To each his/her own, but I don’t understand why many soft top owners invest hundreds of dollars in ā€œotherā€ overhead covers, when they can just do the same thing (easier and cheaper) in safari mode.

On a related note, I drive in this configuration year-round and always get questions from other soft top owners about my ā€œcool aftermarket top.ā€ I cringe when I have to politely advise that it is a stock configuration and they can do the same thing. Still don’t get how folks drop $50 - $100K on a vehicle and neglect reading the manual. It’s their vehicle though, so whatevers…

"Top off" isn't an opinion, Sparky. It's a physical condition. The SOT can be open (retracted) or closed, but it's still on the vehicle.

Words have meanings. E.g., my opinion of the color blue doesn't change the fact that it's still blue.
Splitting hairs the rail on the top is an extra roll bar as far as I'm concerned.
The 12 months, no care about weather is above all else as far as hard tops, or soft.
Not to mention most soft tops look like a bad toupee.

I ended up taking ours out and tossing it. It's too low for taller people, so your head is always touching it. We also have a crapload of scenery overhead that can't be readily seen through it.

It was, however, nice when driving on the interstate.
How tall are you, 7'9"? :giggle: I'm 6'1" and I like it. I think I mostly like the hot CO sun not baking my face, I rarely wear hats, only a floppy brim safari looking hat when I'm hiking or get out of the Jeep. I have gotten too much sun burn, I have to have cancer somewhere on me by now.

I did break one of the bungees for the rear one. I need to get another one. Spiderweb guy in FL was really helpful initially, then I just stopped talking to him because I got busy and it was low priority. He said it would be covered under warranty, that was a year ago though.

Good company, I'd buy Spiderweb again.
