Holy cripes are we fortunate to run these diesels. Even with the price premium we pay at the pump, we are ahead of the hemi folks. Check this thread.

Under 4,000 miles here so take these numbers with a grain. Having paid between 3.96 and 5.59 over nine fills, the average cost per mile for fuel is 19.4 cents. The eco was not a purchase for economy transportation here. Heck I traded a 4xe which averaged a combined cost of 11.0 cents.

Haven't researched it but would think the hemi and eco are pretty close in performance, as would the 4xe be included as comparable. Nearing 7 months with the ecodiesel and have enjoyed it so far.

??‍♂— even the few buyers naïve enough to believe the EPA numbers knew that the 392’s mpg would vary from lousy to sucks. An acceptable trade off for the enjoyable driving experience IMO.

The fuel prices have fallen but with our MPG vs Gas MPG we are paying about the same per gallon and maybe a little less than for engines like the 3.6. 2.0 seems to be pretty decent MPG, I doubt anyone driving a 392 cares!

I've had all the fun I can handle with modern diesel engines strapped with motor killing emissions/DEF systems that more than dissolve any savings in fuel and mileage. Will enjoy my simple naturally aspirated V8 slice of Heaven.

Just turned over 5000 miles on my 392, and I never have checked to see what fuel mileage I get. I couldn't care less. But it is my daily driver and I do have a great big grin on my face every time I drive it.

Besides, fuel cost is a very small portion of my expenses each year. By far the biggest expense each and every year is taxes. Federal and state income tax, SS tax, sales tax on everything I buy, and property tax on everything I own, and on, and on, and on. Even cost of housing is much less. If fact, nothing else even comes close.

Haha, taxes. You sound like someone from Texas. Our property taxes are on the rise too with everyone moving here.

I figure I fill up ever 2 weeks on the diesel, give a standard fill up at $75 (which is probably too high), that less than $2k a year to drive my Jeep. I'll take it.

Not likely, but will say this: the Ecodiesel feels much faster seat-of-the-pants than the stopwatch would indicate. And...doesn't seat-of-the-pants trump the stopwatch for driving enjoyment? The most impressive part is the total lack of drama in doing it.

My experience with the 4xe and ecodiesel finds them very close in performance, have not been near a 392. After checking some reported 0-60 and quarter mile numbers, I see the hemi is a step above the rest for sure.

The ecodiesel guys I know who drive like the hemi guys average 15mpg or less (hard acceleration, heavy rigs with armor/bumpers/gear, freeway speeds of 80mph+) any JL driven hard will get bad fuel economy period. Hypermile any drivetrain and it will return 20mpg+. It was the same with our 2.0t and our 3.6L. Some guys come on and post their 28+ mpg out of the 2.0t, and as soon as they post the trip details some quick math shows an average speed well below 50mph and sometimes in the 30s. If I wanted high mpg, I'd drive a civic si or the like and I'd still drive it hard.

If you're shopping for a 392 chances are probably pretty good gas consumption and cost is not much concern.
