Thanks for the replies. Wasn't aware of the general crappy longevity of original shocks. Will definitely upgrade to aftermarket on the next (eventual) failure.
Why wait? Your current shocks are nearly new and are as valuable as they're going to be on the second hand market.

Jeep Wrangler JL Stock Shock Issues IMG_1342

2022 shock didn’t even make it a couple thousand miles. Something like 5k miles and it failed.

Got that one shock replaced from dealer and a month later I just went ahead and replaced all shocks with fox 2.0 Paid $650 for the set. Currently around $800 if you go that route.

Uhhh, they're leaking.
You know what they say: if it ain't got oil under it it ain't got oil in it.

Joking aside, oops! I missed that the replacement hadn't happened yet (reading is fundamental, apparently?). I meant upgrade from the replacement shocks as soon as they get replaced rather than waiting for the replacements to fail before going aftermarket. Sell them when they're fresh, recoup more coin, and increase the amount of time you spend driving on better, aftermarket shocks.

Ordering 2022 Willys
I own a 2023 JLU Willys and during my recent routine service and PA state inspection, my jeep failed inspection due to rear shocks leaking and was noted the front shocks were damp. Under 2 years old and 18,000+/- miles, no serious off-roading.

Since it is still under warranty, took it to the dealer. Dealer verified the issue and will replace all 4 shocks. Was told shocks were on back order and timeline is over 2 weeks.

I've never had issue with shocks on other vehicles and certainly not on any vehicle under 20,000 miles. So, I find this is odd about the need to replace and that the back order for replacements is over 2 weeks. I ordered my Jeep and was among the first 2023 Jeeps delivered (first month).

Curious if anyone else has experienced this problem and specifically among those that took delivery of a 2023 in the first month or so they were available. I suspect it was a bad batch of shocks that got installed
Had samd issue on my 2022 Willys 2door 3 pedal. 18k miles all four were leaking. Dealer swapped all 4 under warranty. Which was nice, they could have said nothing.

I was pretty turned that after only 18k miles shocks were leaking. But after asking the forum like you did. I was told stock shocks for wrangler are hot garbage. Got a lot of recommendations for shocks to replace them. First jeep for me, so not happy about jeep shocks being so cheap and crappy!

First time Jeep owner (2025 JL) and front left shock ruptured at less than 5k miles after NEVER having been taken off road or up a curb. Took it to the dealer months ago who diagnosed and ordered the replacement.

Now the dealer (CDJR of Woodstock, GA) says that Jeep/FCA is no longer providing them with replacement parts since they have to use all of the new parts on new vehicles.

WOW!

What an experience for a first time Jeep owner.

I've been buying new cars since a 1984 Pontiac Grand Am and have 15 window stickers saved away and I have NEVER had an experience like this.

It's only a few months old and I"m thinking of bailing on Jeep products.

Confused.

So would you go with the Bilstein 0-1.5” or the 2 -3” shock for the replacement on the stock Willys? Any reason not to go with the longer unit? This post just made me look at my shocks, and I guess shocks are now on the to do list.
This rig thinks it’s my old MGB for eating parts.

Talk to Benny, a vendor here with Allmoparparts. See if he can find some in stock then tell your dealer you found some. Maybe that’s worth a shot.

Hope you get that resolved.

Maybe they're treating shocks as a wear item, such as brakes, tires and wipers?

I ended up buying some take-offs from fb marketplace relatively cheap and they were easy to change out. Figured it would be easier for me to spend $100 than to deal with bringing it in, having to argue with them, and see what other things they break.

I do wonder how Toyota does with their warranties and if it's any better. A buddy of mine says he has spark knock on his new Tacoma and the dealer won't do anything about it. He said that they now charge a diagnostic fee even though it's under warranty.

Thanks Daniel.

Benny, I'm all ears!
If you go to their vendor section, you can find a post of his and send a message. It’ll typically take about a day for a response.

A lot of companies charge a diagnostic fee up front, but that gets deleted if the issue is found to be covered by warranty.

If they didn't take that approach then people would use them for their free diagnostic abilities, then take it elsewhere to be fixed.
