I experienced this today for the first time at 70 mph on a curve. I have about 9700 miles on my JL now. For the first time, I drove my Jeep into colder weather; NC to PA to run some trails at Rausch Off Road Park. It was roughly 35-36 degrees and for the first time, I felt what I’ve read about. It’s like someone was holding the wheel. I tried to get it to move several times and then it freed up and then did the same thing again a few moments later. Here’s the video:

Damn. @JeepCares, don’t try to communicate this with the OP by PM, we all need to understand this one.

@JeepCares

@JeepCares this is not acceptable. When is Jeep going to address all of these LIFE threatening steering issues? Are you waiting until someone dies?

Please take the time to file a safety complaint with NHTSA.

You guys understand that @JeepCares are not the spokespeople for Jeep. They are not able nor are they permitted to issue statements on behalf of FCA. Their function is to help individuals get things resolved through their dealerships or departments of FCA, such as Uconnect. Calling them out for this kind of stuff accomplishes nothing because you are not addressing the right people. In cases like this, contact FCA directly and file a report with the NHSTA.

All there is a TSB that fixes this issue. Mine did the same thing during cold temps. I had the TSB done a few months back and the steering is perfect at all temps now. It is a simple software issue.

Mine has already had the TSB applied.

If it's the same one you're referring to, it's TSB 08-092-18.

Yes this is the one

Yea this is the one. Wondering if they screwed up the reprogram? Sorry that your still experiencing it.
That's definitely a possibility. It's going into the dealer in the morning. I won't be able to duplicate it here in NC for a little while. I wheeled Rausch Creek at 25 degrees and then drove home at about 34 degrees or so. Here in NC, it's mid 40's to mid 50's.

I've driven the crap out of my Jeep with 10300 miles on it now, since May, with zero issues until this past weekend.

I'm going to leave it with the dealer all week. I'm going to be in England this week, so they can keep it and try to duplicate it or whatever they have to do. It's a super scary thing to experience out of the blue at 70 mph in the rain. I have an 11 month old, so I'm a little irritated that I'm uncomfortable putting her back in my JL now. I, fortunately, have an old WK to drive around, but still...

What is the date code on your steering stabilizer? There is a chance that a defectively manufactured steering stabilizer (vs one wearing out) where the oil wasn’t properly filled inside of it during the manufacturing process so it gave an air pocket inside, could cause that symptom - https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/steering-wheel-wobble.16577/page-8#post-436030

Early JL Builds had steering box issues. Not all but some. LiteBright, this is how they got their Jeep replaced at the time. And those tight steering boxes and what caused loose steering for the rest of us.

What is your build date ?
