I look at my Jeep like I look at my wife. Nobody will ever be perfect, and I’m not going to become bored with her and divorce her.

My JL is the do over.
Same here. I had my JK just the way I wanted it, but was tired of mechanical and QC issues cropping up. It gave me zero confidence in the vehicle despite it being fantastic on the trail.

Has anyone bought a Jeep, watched these threads and built a pretty salty ride? Only to have the idea creep into your mind to sell it and start over? Do things slightly different? Different color. Different tires. Different direction. Different engine.

If so, how has that worked out? Pleased with your decision? Wish you had not started over? Always frustrated because you are constantly chasing perfection? Excited to go through the process again and see the transformation?
well yes and now , I think more about getting bigger brother to my Jeep ,potent midsize pick up truck with better towing capacity ,.. driving 2 door is totally cool , it's obvious to anybody that driver of 2dr has no more any mortgage, no kids and probably has more than one girlfriend

Yes. I’m on my ninth Wrangler in 12 years.

Started with a used 2008 Sahara 2-door soft top that I bought at Carmax with 8,000 miles for $20,000. Four months later sold it back to them for $19,000 and bought a new 2009 Rubicon 2-door hardtop. MSRP was $33,000; paid $26,000 one week before Chrysler declared bankruptcy. It was cheaper to trade in the Sahara for a Rubicon than buy a hardtop and add a rear locker.

Sold that Rubicon privately and bought a used 2009 Rubicon 4-door hardtop with 15,000 miles for $28,000. Sold it three years later for $26,000 and factory ordered a 2012 Rubicon 4-door...etc.

For years I owned concurrently a 2-door Rubicon for off-roading, and a 4-door Sahara for road trips.

These Jeep’s amazing resale value allowed me to flip them right before the warranty expired with little loss of money.

My favorite Wrangler was a 2015 Sahara 4-door. It was fully loaded; Tank green with Saddle leather, I put a 2” Mopar lift, 34x10.5 pizza cutters and a rear TrueTrac. That thing served me well for 3 years; took me everywhere without a glitch. Bought it used with 5,000 miles for $34,000; sold it 3 years later for $30,000.

The worst Wrangler I owned was a 2018 JKU Rubicon Recon: list price was $52,000; I paid $46,000. Got $37,000 in trade. The build quality has atrocious; the panel gaps uneven, it rattled and squeaked inside; drove like a Soviet tractor. Soured me with Rubicons for awhile.

Now I own a JL Sahara with no mods with the exception of 33” KO2s. I really like it.
man you went through a lot , buying a car to me is complete nightmare , it's like being washed in hogwash and you seem to be the happy perpetual buyer

I know I’m weird but I actually love the car buying process. It’s a lot of fun to me. Ordering my JL online through email was super convenient and easy but not fun at all, lol.

Yeah, same here. I find the hunt for my next vehicle exciting.

I sold cars many years ago, so I have a good feel for how dealers think and operate.

Still, Jeep dealers can take “customer service” to a whole ‘nother realm. Sometimes I think the way Jeep dealers treat customers is all part of this “wild adventure” Jeep keeps promising... :CWL:

i am a bit confused now

You have owned 9 wranglers and one Toyota in 12 years. 10 vehicles/12 years and you have put up to $5000 in each one? Maybe with an average of $2k per Jeep?

You seem to be one of those talented (and dedicated) “car flippers” who buys well and sells well and then buys well again. But if you are putting thousands into each vehicle the numbers that you posted above don’t show the whole picture?
I’ve been driving for 20 years now, 32 cars I’ve owned in that time. Some I’ve lost my ass on , but some I came out ahead.

I just did the Carvana thing on my rubicon and got $6k more on offer than I paid, but chickened our because I couldn’t find a car to replace it with...

Most I made so far was on an 03 cobra terminator. Bought it at $19k and held onto it as a summer car. Put 22k miles on it in 5 years and sold it for $26k. Sonic blue I guess was a really desirable color.

Worst was a Tahoe. Bought at $40k and a year later with 13k more miles I only got $28 trade in. No dealer wanted it since it was lifted with 35”s. Made me cry.

What's wrong with lifted Tahoe ? Specialy in up in the back country. Tahoe is a tank of great comfortable ride , it can take on very rough terrain and offers lots protection . It's a real American beast.
