Was driving home from work and got to the off ramp after about 30 miles of Interstate and could smell something burning. I am not sure what it is or were it is coming from but it is similar to burnt popcorn. Get home and pull the Jeep in the garage, get the mail and as I am walking past the Jeep I can smell it again.
I backed the Jeep out of the garage, lift the hood and start looking. Eventually I notice something on top of the exhaust manifold at the very back of the motor near the fire wall. It’s a hamburger bun!!! Puzzled and baffled how this got there. With no lock on the Jeep hood it is possible it was someone’s idea of a joke. The more I have thought about it I am wondering if a squirrel carried it up there?
Anyone else had a similar experience? I have since ordered a Mopar hood lock that can be keyed to the key fob key.

Edit: The photo is a little misleading, this is only about a 1/4 of a hamburger bun. From this vantage it appears to be an entire bun.

Edit: After this hamburger bun was found in my Jeep we had a several vehicles have squirrel nest build under the hood and wires chewed up. Cost one worker $600 to have his brand new F250 fixed. Set a live trap and removed three squirrels that now reside at a city park. Totally convinced it was a ?️.

a Squirrel will do strange things. My neighbor feeds them along with the birds. I put on my sandles the other morning and a squirrel had put a peanut in one of them. I us usually shake them out before I put them on because one morning I put them on and something wiggled. Should have seen me dance. It was a Geiko. He constantly sleeps in the sandle at night. I guess he likes feet.

Some of these little critters are amazing when it come to stashing food. The house we live in now was used as a vacation home for a few years before we decided to move up here permanently. When we were moving out some of the old furniture we had a couch with a fold out bed. It was filled with Acorns. you would think you could find the a hole somewhere big enough to bring them in but still have not found it.
Mice or squirrels who knows - no other damage or poopy signs of critters.

C'mon, fess up. You tried to do some baking on the manifold and you let it go a little too long. Happens to everyone. :)

Was the bun soft or really hard?

If it was really hard it was probably left under your hood while on the assembly line by someone who didn't have time to finish stuffing it in their mouth before lunch was over.

While driving on the interstate, the higher speed factored in with a sudden gust of wind moved the bun from it's hiding spot to the area where you discovered it cooking.

If it was a soft bun, throw some burger on your exhaust manifold, brown the meat to your preferred done state (medium rare is usually good, some though will only eat it well done) and have yourself a nice little snack.

I'm often occupied, by many things, often at the same time
I threw away seven hamburger buns last week. They were in the trash that got picked up yesterday, unless a squirrel got to them. That's where a squirrel finds a hamburger bun, in the trash. I'd be more concerned about how the squirrel burned the bun he put under your hood.

BTW, a lock on your hood won't stop a squirrel. They don't unlatch the hood before opening it.

Oh yeah, did you ever find the bag of burnt popcorn?

Where does anyone get a hamburger bun?
hows a squirrel going to open the hood. Had to be at least two or three of them to pull that off. Sounds more like chipmunk mischief if you ask me.
