I have followed this issue, since the 3.6 engine origination. It was used in other model Jeeps, prior to the 2012 Wranglers. There has never been a anti-drain back valve, from day one through the current PUG. But, I think some is retained by vacuum. Example, you drink some soda through a straw and while the straw is full, just hold your tongue over the end. The soda will not run out. Just common sense. So until the cap is loosened, some is retained.

For me, I don't see a reason to spend $400 on it. Perhaps others will chime in with a different perspective.
Exactly.....seems like a solution for a problem that doesn’t exist.

If one has a engine, still in factory warranty, this would not be a good idea. If the Factory felt that the 3.6 engine needed a anti-drain back valve, then they would have engineered one into it.
This could apply to any more.

The topic was the filter housing being "dry"; it is not/cannot be dry because when you pull the filter from the housing and wait a few seconds more oil will drain from the pan. The bottom o-ring on the filter tip is sealing "something" for that to happen.

Not saying this is a traditional ADBV...
The oil filter housing is always empty on a cold start. I’m not sure what you even gain by disputing this.

Gee, . . .and only 400 bucks!!

G.
There's a lot of machined parts there. Low production, low demand. It's gonna cost a lot to produce.

If you just plain have time on your hands, here's a slide show of the first gen 3.6's lubrication system and it path start to finish. You can page through or using 'settings' to enable autoplay. Enjoy. :)

Another negative about this device is that it extends out the filter and the weight of the oil further and the metal construction adds additional weight. Then there's the thread locking key that can generate extreme specific loads on the threaded area. ....All on a known to be problematic plastic oil filter/cooler housing. What were they thinking?

What were they thinking?
They were thinking profits and fearmongering in regards to touting faster oil pressure and flooding of the upper oil system.

Then.....there’s the Schrader valve attachment you have to utilize for draining the oil from the spin-on oil filter.....
