Appreciate the insight, pros/cons rope versus cable in your opinion?
I prefer rope myself, lighter (the 8724 is bloody heavy as is) Less recoil if it breaks and my kids are usually with me and love to help rig up the line so I don’t have to worry about broken strands poking them

Cable lasts longer with less maintenance, but always should handle with gloves and carry’s a lot of energy when it does break

I’ve been running the same rope for 5 years now and it’s still in good shape

Which way you leaning Rob?
I'm still not sure. The x2o is a great $519 on Amazon of all places, prime too. For that price I can get a set of iron cross steps and the winch plate, and probably a factor 55 flat link and still be under the cost of a Zeon 10-S. But again, if I had some kind of quantifiable proof that the Zeon WILL be better I'd get it. Planned out my trip to EJS this year and really want one before then.

I was on the fence deference SB and Warn as well. I was pointed to this for just a warn comparison. I went with the ZEON.

EDIT: I also picked up the 10S for $1,050 out the door on Black Friday. That helped.

That's a great price too, and I totally see the benefit when looking at that comparison but I'm still back and forth because I don't know if all those small pluses are worth it . The x2o also has an IP rating as well as a long warranty on electronics so it's somewhere in-between the VR and Zeon yet cheaper than both.

I mean, we could have bought a Mercedes G wagon with portal axles and 3 lockers but here we are, you know what I mean? Just trying to get some opinions though, thanks. If I could get a Zeon for $1000 I probably would strongly consider jumping on it.

10-4..... I’m thinking how often I’m going to use it, b/c I’m usually out with other people. So do I want an expensive winch for occasional use, or cheaper one as long as it does the job when I need it? It’s better to have it not need it than need it and not have it I guess.
Yep same here, but when I need it I want it to work every time, so there's value in that.

Do your self a favor and checkout the super winch. 10 k exp you can get them wholesale at 4 wheel parts. Way better winch than both not as expensive as the warm but more expensive than the smitty ( a decent winch for. Sure). Here is the thing the winch sits there until you need it then there is no substitute. That’s why I went with the super winch. The electronics. Are full. Ipf 69. So it can just sit there and it will be ready. Use an Artec

The new VR is a horrible winch, seen lots over on the wranglerforum return them after they realized how cheap they were and most actually did work out of the box

Synthetic rope, too many horror stories of cables rebounding and hurting people or breaking things.

What is the recommendation of pounds? Does need to be at least 8000 lbs or more?
“Rule of thumb” is double your built weight.

This -> “Here is the thing the winch sits there until you need it then there is no substitute.” The same goes for generators. A Honda looks expensive until you need it.
